Need advice on how to remove Pine tree sap from the rubber roof and the awning. There are only a few places and not large areas, but I am sure that it should be removed ASAP.
A guy at a campground told me that you can use fingernail polish remover on very small spots and clean well as soon as the goo is gone. COMMENTS??

Black streak remover works on poplar tree sap on the painted surface of the truck.

You might try Goo-Gone. Its a lemon based product that removes tree sap. Make sure it is compatible with the rubber roof before using it, though!!

Atten: If you use Goo-gone or Goof-off on any rubber or plastic
product, be sure to use on a small area and rinse immediately with
water and a rag. Do not let this stuff set. This is powerful stuff
and works well but you have to follow up and clean it off. Used it
to remove some stains from my shower, and although it worked like
a champ it started to soften the plastic before I could rinse it
all off. Caught it in time and no damage was done. Just be careful.

Best to remove as soon as possible, before it hardens and "sets". Remember that the elbow grease you use to get it off will leave marks - I know, my Tahoe's paint has swirls in it. I used goo-gone, but it took lots of elbow grease too (and left a not so shiny spot in my paint's clear coat). Last weekend I washed our daughter's Honda with Simple Green and most of the spots of sap came right off. The one that didn't, I picked at with a fingernail and it popped off. I'm thinking a hot steamy towel to loosen the sap before you wash it? Good luck! (I think the Honda was so dirty the sap couldn't stick to the paint for the dirt under it - college students!)...

An item in RV View magazine mentioned the use of denatured alcohol to clean off the tree sap. I guess the answer is what ever you feel comfotable with--just be careful of the finish!

I use WD-40 to remove sap from my paint and glass. Never tried it on a rubber roof, but it is a very gentle solvent that works great for sap, getting price tags off things, and lots of other clean-up jobs. It doesn't bother paint, and it also doesn't bother most people's skin.
The citrus oil cleaners already mentioned are probably the safest bet to try on the rubber roof. There are numerous brands. They are also easy on the skin.
