Love our OR! For us, it was everything we had been looking for and was within our price range. We've had it since June and have about 3K (give or take) miles on it. Keep us posted as to your decision! Good luck.
I'm just about to put my 04 Open Road 357 RLDS away for the winter! Sad to say, it will be 5 months before I'll be able to enjoy this beautiful rig again.
The Open Road company is, bar none, the most customer centered organization I have ever had dealings with. They honestly want to hear from customers about both the good things and especially the not so good things about the trailers. So far, I have not had any major issues with the components manufactured by Pilgrim International. I have had year long frustration with the Attwood 10 gal. water heater, but I won't blame Open Road for this, as they only install what they buy. The problem crossed into other trailer brands, using the same model water heater.
I have had the pleasure of meeting the ownership and office staff of Pilgrim International. Mr. Bill Harris, one of the three owners, spent over three hours with me and my wife, at the Harrisburg RV show. Heent over every detail of the Open Road line, and made notes of our suggestions and concerns, before we chose our trailer and ordered it. His counterpart and also owner, Mr. Dave Hoefer, was a most gracious and approachable host, at the first annual Open Road Rally, this past July, in Middlebury, Indiana. He took the time to talk with each one of the attendies and made sure our every need was met.
Mr. Hoefer was the original start up owner of Dutchmen Trailers. When they came into the marketplace, in the mid 1980's, they were by far the best trailer for the money. It wasn't until he sold the company that the quality of that brand dropped. He brings the same manufacturing concepts into the Open Road trailers, giving the most trailer for a fair price.
Pilgrimn is in the process of building a new manufacturing facility, near Bristol, Indiana. This should improve upon an already very good unit, when it opens next year.
Would I buy another Open Road? A resounding YES! Would I recommend the trailer and the company? YES! Are they perfect? No, no company can mass produce trailers and say all units are perfect. I know if I have a problem, the company will do what is necessary to fulfilll my needs.
Hello All,I'm new to the forum and have been reading the postings and appreciate all the good info.I'm currently looking at purchasing a 2004 360RKDS or 349RLDS and have a question about the torsion suspension axles used on the Open Road fivers. Can someone give me their impression of overall towing/handling differences over the leaf spring suspension style axles. Also any feedback on the triple slide operation.
HvyHauler, welcome to the forum! The torsion suspension, IMO, offers improved handling and a much smoother ride. As for the slide outs, I have not experienced any problems with them. Best of luck in your decision (love that rear kitchen in the 360!!) Keep us posted!
We bought an Open Road after reading all the comments on RV Net and then going to look at them in person. After we saw the Open Road, we looked at others, but non could compare. (We were just looking.) Really enjoy the fireplace and also the fact that when you travel you can get to any place in the trailer. We have the 357. Would buy another one.
We have been looking at the Open Road for a while now. Just can't seem to make our mind up between it or the more expensive Mobile Suite or Carriage. For those of you who have them, how does the Open Road feel on the inside when it is wet and damp outside. We have a Travel Trailer now and it has the one inch foam walls but we had to buy a de-humidifier for the trailer and the towels while hung up in the bathroom seem to take forever to dry.
