Just compare the cost of a new ridgeline(along with all of the problems new release vehicles have) against the cost of a proven tow vehilce with a V8, Like a suburban or a truck. I would not try to tow with a V6. Keep this in mind. RVing is mostly a north american phenomenon, and so Ford, Chevy, and Dodge have been making trucks with this in mind. I think before yo spend the money on a truck with a V6 i would ask around(being in here is a good start) and see what other's think. I have many a friend who though thier V6 could tow a hybrid and were looking at a V8 real quick.

Quote: The engine is typical of small car design. It's power comes at very high RPMs, 255 HP @ 5750 RPM and 252 ft. lbs Torque @ 4500 RPM. Unless one enjoys a screaming motor, it doesn't seem like much of a towing power plant.

Fuzz1,
The PSD may be loud at idle, but it is quiet on the road. The piston speed while pulling a steep grade is probably much lower than the little car engine that needs to stuggle at high revs. Maybe this not a concern with a Honda, because they make great racing motors for Grand Prix racing cars.

"In the Ridgeline literature there are numerous claims of a 5000 pound towing limit. BUT - each claim has a footnote symbol, saying to refer to the manual. Then in the manual it says that towing limit with 5 passengers is.........
2000 pounds
Apparently this is because rear passsengers add disproportionately to tongue weight as a consequence of independent rear suspension ..."
You should look seriously at the new Tacoma (Double Cab), it's a real truck of similar size and will do a lot better job of towing a TT than the Honda. It has a superior V6 with more low down torque and a 140 inch wheelbase which will really help stability. Having said that I still wouldn't go over 22 feet or 5,000lbs fully loaded even though it's rated to 6,500.

I just received a corrected owners manual for my Ridgeline. The section Towing Weight Guidlines states that the Max. Trailer Weight with 5 occupants is 4500 lbs (2041 kg). The Max. Tongue Load is 516 lbs (234 kg.). The Max. Trailer Weight with 2 occupants is 5000 lbs (2268 kg). The Max Tongue Load is 600 lbs (272 kg).

Hi
Let me put this in a better perspective:
Comparing a Honda Ridgeline to a 3/4 ton Ford Chevy or Dodge is like comparing the 3/4 ton Ford Chevy or Dodge to a Kenworth or Peterbuilt.
They all have their limits and knowing what they are is the most important thing when hooking up a trailer.

I also looked at the Ridgeline (I'm on my 3rd and last Honda) hard to believe, but I've had problems with everyone of them; my luck I guess. Anyway, I was really disappointed on its towing ability. You won't be able to tow anything other then a small trailer or a good sized pop-up. I went and bought a Ford pickup instead (1st American Car for me), with my luck it will perform flawlessly.

I've got a screaming Honda and a F350 PSD. I love the sound of that diesel at idle.

This whole thread is exactly why I bought my CTD. I kept running into TT & 5'ers I liked, but was afraid of pulling with a 1/2 ton. I think it was the best decision I made all year. That big boy just pulls & pulls & pulls.
I didn't want to retire my relatively new 2002 dodge gasser, but I also didn't want to worry constantly if I had enough truck. As it turned out I have twice as much truck and better fuel mileage (16 mpg of gas - 22 mpg on diesel), and I don't worry about having enough truck. Shoot I even bought a bigger trailer because of it.

Isn't it a bad idea to buy the 1st model year of ANY vehicle? Honda makes a wonderful vehicle though. As long as your within the 80% rule, you'll be fine. I swear big 3 truck dealers post here all the time. You don't need a 1 ton diesel to pull a Casita. If you like the Honda and it suits your needs...buy it! My Tundra pulls my '29 JayFeather just fine. I have to admit though I would love to step up to a PSD for RVing. I don't know about you, but I'm doing most of my driving without TT in tow, besides I don't need to drive 70+ mph while towing ANYTHING!
