I had a heart attack in 2000, had triple by pass surgery,
then in 2004, had another small attack..
Ive never felt better in my life..
I still do everything I ever did and feel better doing it.
Of course I take good care of myself, I eat right and exercise
daily..
My Dr. told me when he sent me home, getting well was a lot in
the mind, and Ive kept a positive attitude and laugh alot, laughing
is the best medicine..
Im 67 yrs young, and life has never been better..
If you take care of yourself, you will be fine.....gardening gurl

Going to miss this holiday camping! Going in tomorrow for Cardiac Cath and most likely another Stint. Had 1st attack 2001 stint put in. had to be replaced in 2005 now problems again. has anyone one experienced stint closures? The newest stint was supposed to be medicated so it doesn't close up. Don't know? Hopefully some answers tomorrow then my family Dr says he wants me to change Cardiologist so I guess I'll get A new heart Dr. Now too,
Happy Camping all hope to be back out soon. Have Res made for next weekend But I'll have to see how things go.

Here is what we know about medicated stents. The head of Cardiology at our hospital, went to Washington DC back in 2006, after research found that the medicated stent had a very SMALL percentage of closing/clotting, and it was determined that anyone who had the medicated stent implanted should take Plavix for the rest of their lives, as well as a baby aspirin. Also, when you go to the Cath Lab the Cardiologist should/will check to make sure that the stent is in place.

Unless those with stents were lucky enough to see this on the news, there are thousands of heart patients with medicated stents out there, not taking Plavix. Please check to make sure your Cardiologist is up to date on information.

Hopefully, with web-sites like this it will educate all of us to ask more questions. It was thought, at first, that the medicated stent was less likely to cause problems, but research found a very small percentage where it wasn't as good as the first plain metal stent.

Will say a prayer for you tonight. It is good that you are checking on this, as everyone on this forum with stents should. Call your Cardiologist and ask.

We all need to put the word out about Plavix and medicated stents. We've run across many with medicated stents that only stayed on Plavix for one year.

Kirk, glad you did so well. Got a stress test coming up in July, so hope it goes as well. Glad you are back at you favorite CG!

Hope to see you down the road.

Sadly, Tim Russert, 58 years old, died of a massive heart attack. He had passed a stress test a little over 2 months ago. A Cardiologist said that he should have had a Protein test to see if any plaque was on the walls of the arteries. For those of you who have had Stress Tests, do any of you recall your Cardiologist giving you a Protein Test?

(I am definitely going to ask my Cardiologist about it) I just wondered if Cardiologist routinely do a Protein Test? Does anybody know?

Finally- What is the "Protein Test" you refer to?
On the local (Pittsburgh) NBC news tonight they interviewed a cardiologist with AGH about Mr. Russert's heart attack (MI). He said he probably had "vulnerable" plaque. That is plaque on the arterial walls that may be widespread, but not very thick in any one place. It causes an MI by rupturing and creating a spot where a clot will quickly form and block the blood flow. He indicated there were not yet any blood tests to detect this plaque, but promising studies were ongoing. As this plaque is not thick, Mr. Russert was able to pass his stress test without symptoms.

I did a little digging today. I assume you are referring to the C Reactive Protein (CRP) blood test. This is not a test for plaque in the arteries, but it is a test that MAY indicate that "vunerable" plaque has ruptured. It is a marker for inflammation. It can also be elevated by arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, or several other non cardiac issues.
