That's also why we have the Four Winds 28A on the list. It's obviously much smaller than the A, but runs about half the price. I think it would be fine for us with the exception of those rainy days when you're stuck inside all day with a 4- and 5-year old...space becomes almost priceless!

It takes planning. I've been reading a book called all on one boat. Its about a family of four who live on a 45' sailboat (I think). Now, a 50' sailboat (in the rain) has much less space than a 30' RV. Its a great book for figuring out how to make good use of space and how to keep kids interested and happy when at sea during a long passage.

That said, I've seen a lot of young familys with smaller RV's and they often have a dining tent setup. With a blue tarp over the top it could be a great place for the parents to escape to while the kids destory the RV .

Hello everyone,
I just joined RV.Net and well I have been doing some research on my own. I own a 2004 Fleetwood Revolution diesel pusher. Hey, don't get me wrong it is a beautiful rig, except that, as I read in your forum it is to hold a lot of stuff and a little too uncomfortable to sleep more than 2. I have 3 kids, and what drives me crazy is setting the dinnete as a bed and my poor 11 year old that sleeps in the sofa bed which is also very uncomfortable. I like to bring a lot of stuff, and I tow a 07 Saturn Outlook. The rig has a 350 hp and it has a lot of power, but I did have my share of problems (overheating) when I decided to go to Disneyland from Texas and come back going towards Alburquerque. The hills that I went throgh were in the 7,000s, and I was really pushing it.
When I started on 04, I started with a 34' TERRY travel trailer, very nice with bunks. Bunks were nice, but it only had 1 a/c and it got pretty hot. The biggest reason why I got rid of it was because towing that thing as often as I wanted was STRESSFUL. 4 months down the line, I traded and got a 29' Ultra Gulfstream class C with a bunk over the cab. The sleeping area was nice, but again the a/c was only one... I thought that since it was smaller, we would manage, boy was I wrong! Also the bathroom and the kitchen were VERY small ( I'm 6'0 220lbs)
3 months down the line, I took a massive loss and got into this last unit. Super cold a/c! (2) BIG kitchen, actually everything is very nice.
My question to everyone out there: I have been looking at a Renegade (It is a class C as far as I am concerned) talking and working very closely with the reps from the factory. I have mentioned a lot of "things" I would like in the unit, and believe me it has EVERYTHING you can think of. But they still think that my idea of having an Allison transmission on a class 8 truck is absurd. Honestly, the one thing I like about class A's is the transmission (Allison). Has anyone bought, rented, owned, rode, touched a Renegade or an Optima or a Haulmark?
I was inside a Haulmark in New Mexico, (that's why my return trip was odd) and well aside from not being able to do the washer AND dryer, I would have already purchased one. **The current RV I have, has a W/D combo and I might as well throw it in the trash. The Splendid W/D, you have to wash everyday 3 or 4 clothes and be carefull with getting burned and you better be ready with a very hot Iron because your clothes are going to look like a donkey chewed on them.**
The APR was great, the salesman, everything except 3 or 4 things that the company was unwilling to do on this 400 thousand unit.
The Renegade company is willing to do everything I want, and by the comments and reading I have received, it looks like the BEST choice. The Optima, well, I was inside one on Phoenix, and I thought it needed more. Although they were willing to do whatever I wanted, the shower was very small, and some of the everyday things were very awkardly placed. The salesman did not let me ride it, unless I bought it, and well what can I say, I did not leave sooner because it was the closest place for me. While riding, I sat on the front and well, I have never been on an 18 wheeler and the transmission was a 12 gear semi auto, boy was that bad! I could feel every gear! I am asuming that with the 6 speed allison, the rig should feel a lot better. This last weekend, I took my family to San Antonio, TX and well I manage to stop by to see the Dynamax. It was not what I imagined. The truck's inside is very low maybe 6'2. The inside looked like a combination of Cheap and Expensive, and that is just not right. The cab's top is very low for aerodynamics, and it does not fit a bed. I did call the company, and they are NOT willing to do the bunk on top of the cab.
Needless to say I am back to square one, RENEGADE, and after all I have been through, I think I am going to stick to them. PLEASE COMMENT ANYONE?
PS> Another reason I liked the Class C form was that my family can watch TV while on the road in the living room and not the bedroom.

There are only two good motorhomes. The one you owned last, and the one you are getting next. In other words, you will end up wanting to change a few things no matter what you buy. I've had a 36' DP, and downsized to a 29' class C. I liked both for various reasons. You'll have fun in it no matter what you buy. Happy shopping.

My wife is twisting my arm to buy a motorhome. First we looked at Class A's and now she's thinking about a Class C. Are there any simple (?) rules/thoughts as to how to make a practical decision as to whether a Class A or Class C fits our needs? I guess my biggest concern is the handling characteristics. Although I have to admit that I like "being able to get under the hood" and having the doors up front. Has anybody experience with both styles and wishes to comment?

Drive ability when traveling: you can park a C almost anywhere you can park a car. Drawbacks: all your friends at the CG with A's come to you to take them into town.

I personally like having the doors, AND airbags for safety.

And the most important for me is that the motor and its compartment is 'just a van' which means if you break down any service station will work on your MH. Many will not touch a Class A.

We traded up from a 5er to a MH this year. We looked at Class a and c's.
a lot depends on your style of camping. We like smaller SP and FS camps. The class c seemed to fit our needs. The class A can be intimidating to drive. The class C is more like a large PU truck. My Access has a huge storage area under the back. My grandson wanted it for a bedroom it is so large. I love my class C For me it was the right choice.

We needed the overhead bed in the C for storage, shade while driving and for me when I get booted out of the rear bed when my 7 year old gets scared and wants to sleep with Mom. I test drove some Class A's and couldn't get out of the HOT sun with the big ol' windshield but the view sure is nice.

Welcome to the Super C side of life. We have a United Specialties(like renegade, but in myu opinon better)on the Freightliner chassis, with the 12 speeds trans. I WOULD NOT WANT THE SIX SPEED ALLISON. The 12 speed meritor is a dream, the engine hardly works, it runs 7075 with power to boot. We run hills like nothing towing our pickup. The Optimas are not worth the money in my opinon. If you want I can send you my thoughts via PM. I looked at MRC, Renegade, Optima and Haulmark before I bought my United (www.unitedspecialtiesinc.com)

asolis, you will like the new trans in the Renegade. Freightliner went with the Eaton 13 speed Ultrashift, while Volvo has their own trans now- 12 speed I-Shift. You can barely feel the I-Shift change gears- I know what you mean about noticing every shift- it sounds like an old gear jammer truck driver double clutching.

As a newbie, I'm not afraid to ask silly questions, so here goes: Isn't another advantage of Class Cs over Class As the fact that in a Class C the automotive parts are completely isolated from the living areas? In a Class A the automotive technicians need to access the living areas both in front-engine (dog house) or rear-engine (bedroom access hatch) units, no?

My question is: do ALL Class As need living-area access for automotive technicians? Another one: Is it true that in ALL Class Cs there no need to access the living areas for automotive technicians?

Thanks!

Ray, it is true, at least in the Renegade type (class 8 truck conversion) class c's- there is no need for a technician working on the engine/drivetrain to come into the coach.
