Question on the
SUV ( ya I know )= Suzuki X-90 2450lbs!

We looked at one a couple of years back and was not impressed with the rough ride that the very short wheelbase gave.
I thought it would be a great tow car, until I drove it.
Have you drove one yet, to see if the ride has improved any?

We had the smaller Saturn sedan that weighed about 2300 lbs. was maybe a '96??? Have upscaled to the much heavier VUE.

Little sedan was auto transmission and towed like a dream. NO fuses to pull - that started with the newer cars. We simply put it in neutral, left the key on accessory position and towed away.

The new Vue is great but is heavier and requires three minutes of warmup and a fuse pull before starting out.

Saturn fsedan elt very safe and had a nice ride for a small car.Lots of trunk space and four people could ride in comfort. Traded only because we needed more for everyday driving and hauling.

You forgot the Saturn, which seems to be the toad of choice here. Tows four down with nothing to change, and you pull a fuse so that the odometer is disabled.

I towed a 97 Saturn SL2. never had to pull a fuse. Just turn on the ign. , turn off the radio , put in nutral. no fuses to pull.

I'd really rethink the Geo Metro and Suzuki Swift (they are the same car, different badge).

I had the misfortune of owning an '89 Geo Metro for four l-o-n-g years. Mechanically, it was sound. I ran it for almost 100,000 miles. However, the ride was scary. I remember those rear 12" tires wanting to break loose from the pavement while in a curve on the highway. My hands were numb from the vibration coming through the steering wheel. That 3-cylinder 1.0L (49hp) engine was no treat either. I had to shut off the A/C on long hills. The engine had to be floored almost all the time in order to keep up with traffic.

Don't plan on getting into an accident either. I know...Who actually PLANS on getting into an accident? That sheet metal could easily be dented by leaning against it the wrong way. Not Safe!

I realize that you are looking at a late 90's model which is dimensionally larger, bigger wheels (13") and has one extra cylinder, but I'd still be leary.

I have a manual VW Jetta that seems work just fine for us.

I had a Miata. Fun car but hard to get in and out of. You can not go shopping in one of these!!! NO room to carry anything.

My 2004 Suzuki XL7 weighs in at about 4065 lbs with full tank of gas. Easy to get in and out of and carries a lot!!!

I know it's back there but not all that bad.

well, if you want to suffer with a stick shift, and use a suicide special for a toad, no.
but you should have posted this under a different forum for good response.

What suffering? Some of us are not too lazy to shift ourselves, and sticks get better mileage!

REPLYS:

Your right about the Geo Metro - I also owned one for several years and althought it was a workhorse ( several time from chicago to boston) no power assist steering, little wheels, etc.. during the winter it was the only car that would start

No I have not driven the X-90. However I have read several disturbing articles on it.

Thanks for your comments,

Tom

I guess I can understand the vehicles on your list, given the parameters you set for inclusion. But, I don't think I want to tow a vehicle that I don't want to drive. IMO, aside from the Miata, I don't see anything here that meets that criteria.
