After spending far to many hours on the internet I have finally narrowed the list.

Criteria = under 2500 lbs ( lighter is better ), stick shift, no hassle 4 down towing, cheap car under $5000, year in high 1990s

SHORT LIST: ( not in any order )

SUV ( ya I know )= Suzuki X-90 2450lbs
Suzuki Swift 1900 lbs
Geo Metro 1900 lbs
Toyoto Echo 2080 lbs
Mazda Miata 2200 lbs

Now I would like to hear your thoughts on this list. Did I miss a gem of a car? Which one would you choose?

Thanks for all your help,

Tom

I don't think the Mazda is even if it is a manual.
What about Honda Civic?

You forgot the Saturn, which seems to be the toad of choice here. Tows four down with nothing to change, and you pull a fuse so that the odometer is disabled.

well, if you want to suffer with a stick shift, and use a suicide special for a toad, no.
but you should have posted this under a different forum for good response.

Your weights are a little low. The Mazda is closer to 2500 lbs. depending on equipment. The lightest I believe is about 2470 lbs. with the heaviest at near 2600 lbs.

REPLYS:

The Civics seem to expensive.
The Saturns are over 2500lbs.
Yes, the mazda is right at the limit but real sporty looking if I could squeeze myself into one.

The Suzuki XL-7 is worth a look, even though a little more expensive and a little more weight.
3200 lb
Auto Trans
4WD
Tows 4 down
No modifications or fuse pulling
Does not advance the odometer
Very roomy
Good gas mileage
Very reliable
