Glad to have you back.

There are some changes going on with the Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue for the good. Since my last post concerning the organization they have made contact with the city and have started a program of rescuing dogs from the city shelter and also giving those that are there needed medication and visits to the vet until they can be moved to foster homes. I have been asked to rejoin the group and help with its Public Relations and fund raising events. The whole picture is now complete with all animals being given a second chance at life.

The group is in need of a van and has found a used 1999 Dodge with only 13,200 miles on it that is perfect for transport. The price is right so I hope we will be able to find the funds to purchase it. Animals are still being transported to the north east where there are homes waiting for each one. The success of adoption for these animals is 100%. Each dog has gone through obedience training and is current with its shots and medication. By the time they reach their new homes they are ready to fit in as a family member. Many are crate trained and house broken so this makes it easy for the new owners and encourages adoptions of the Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescues when they reach the shelters.

The volunteers that take their time for the “Dixie Transport” are to be commended for donating their time in making this trip with great expense of their time away from family. I am proud of what has been accomplished by the organization and their continued success at saving animals that have been left along the side of the road and at county dumpsters.

Under the direction of Mr. Bruce Storm I am sure the Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue will rise to new heights and I find it a pleasure to work with such a talented man who has the compassion it takes to get the job done.

Richard this is very heart warming information. For you to be back at an organization you fought so hard to organize and is a part of your heart. I pray the organization has continued success and that your effort with Mr Storm and the other members will continue to grow.

Dixie Flyer, can you please post the address of the Old Fella Burke County Animal Shelter, if you haven't already? I would like to make a monetary donation to them. You truly are a dog's best friend with all the work you do for them, and I know you are definitely Old Fella's best friend.

If you shake meat tenderizer on the "poopcycles" the dog won't eat them. If the dog enjoys his own, put the tenderizer on his/her food. It's cheaper than the products you buy from pet stores. The problem is what the other animals eat - deer, rabbits etc. It's a challenge. The best solution with an inside cat is turn the litter box so the cat can get in but not the dog.

Or put it up on something the cat can jump up to, but the dog can't. Most cats can jump higher than most dogs.

When I see pictures like this I think of the four little puppies found at a dumpster out on Winter road this coming July two years ago. If Mrs. Barnes had not called I wonder where Suzie would be today? Anna has a wonderful home with Dan and Lori in Ohio. Dixie and Savannah have a home close by and are doing well. When I think of all the puppies and adult dogs that have passed through this home and the Old Fella organization it makes me feel good to know that somehow in some small way lives have been changed for the better.
