FOOF sounds like it includes "many " of Fellas friends Susie, Charlie, Izzy, all of the rescues and US lol
You are absolutely correct. Charlie is a FOOF along with all the rest of us.
A thunder storm just came through and he is under my desk. Now my desk isn't big by any means as it is a small typing desk, but Charlie has his big butt under it lying on my feet for comfort. For a while I had he and Suzie playing with a toy, but the storm has lasted so long I had to stop the rough house as Charlie would hurt his leg and come up limping again.
He has made great progress with the leg on the medication Dr. Ford put him on and I can tell he has gained some strength with it. He is taking a large dose of calcium twice a day along with the pain meds and I can see a big difference in the way he handles himself.
Charlie is such a sweet dog and so loving. He is learning more everyday about being obedient and staying out of trouble with the trash can. He looks to me for approval now if he is not sure about something and really is ashamed when I have to scold him.
He will still surf the kitchen counters when he comes in at meal time on occassion, but he doesn't try to get anything off of them as he once did.
Suzie tickles me when she sees Charlie doing something she thinks may be trouble. She will either shy away from the scene or she will bark to draw attention to Charlie like a sister telling on her brother. We are surely blessed with our fur kids and enjoy them very much. What a joy it is to look at Charlie,Izzie and Suzie and know that they are safe and secure and not living on the street or in the city pound. Old Fella has changed a lot of things about the way I think about strays, especially older ones that get passed over for one reason or another. I believe for every older dog that is rescued there is a special blessing that comes with them and that is wisdom and gentleness beyond measure. Old Fella's spirit is alive and well tonight expressing himself through all the old fella's that are curled up at the feet of some loving person that took the time to go back for one more look and decided they were worth all the effort that it takes to give them a place in their homes and in their hearts.

Here's Charlie. With my chair pulled up to the desk with me in it he feels safe and secure.

It's another day with a lot of blessing to come our way. Rain, rain and more rain! After going so long without any rain we are now getting some heavy rain. There is an 80% chance today, tonight and a 70% chance for Tuesday. The water levels are still very low but hopefully that will change.
Charlie and Suzie had a good night and were up with the chickens this morning wanting to go outside and get the day started. Boy is it humid outside, like walking into a steam bath when you go outside. I haven't been to the city shelter in a week so I am going to make my way there this morning and see what has been happening. The inmates continue to go each day to socialize the dogs and clean the pens and feed the animals. It is working very well and seems to be a success.
The older man that was in the hospital has gone home, I just don't know at this point what is going to happen there. The situation is bad with all the cats and he is unable to care for them all. The two dogs were well fed and happy, but something will have to be done to help him. He has no running water at the trailer as everything is broken so I don't know how he is able to clean himself of water the animals.
Bruce and Billy went out there while I was gone to access the situation and to help as much as they could, but without his approval nothing can be done.
Okay I have to go for now, so I will talk with you later.

Hi Richard, Just wondering about the old man...you say there is no running water - do you mean inside the trailer? Does he at least have an outside hose to give the animals water? How many cats are there? Sounds like a sad situation. Wish I lived closer so I could help - but, of course, prayers do help, so will pray for him and his situation improving.

Well, Charlie must be older than we thought. He obviously grew up in the 1940's when we all learned that we would be safe under our desks!

He has no running water at all, inside nor outside the trailer. The number of cats is about 50 with the two older dogs.

This is what it looks like.

Billy and Bruce are going over in the morning to help. They have already cut some of the brush and hauled off some of the trash. Tomorrow the water lines will be repaired and perhaps some of the cats may be dealt with? Old Fella will be lending a hand to some of human needs.

If it was not so far away My son and I would come and help, but instead we will have to assist someone in our area. There are people everywhere that need a little hand up.

It might be worth discussing with a bigger organization like Best Friends, to see if they could point to any resources to help get the cats caught and fixed and maybe farmed out to some different rescues. Or even if they're caught and fixed and stay there with appropriate support, at least the population won't be expanding.

It might also be worth a call to family services. If this man is in poor health, living like his cannot be good for him. The state may be able to help hook him up with a social worker and services to get him into better living conditions, him and his pets!
