Mama is still in a lot of pain but her appetite is still good as she ate all of her food this morning. As usual Hobo was waiting in the wings to get any food scrap that Mama might leave behind. Hobo will go behind Peaches, Mama and Suzie and lick the bowl clean, gosh food is so important to her!
Anyway just as soon as I can get dressed and out of here I am taking Mama in this morning to see what can be done for her. She is such a sweet heart and will let you do anything for her, it's as if she knows we are trying to help her feel better. I won't have any trouble getting her into the truck as that is her favorite thing and she would burst hell wide open and walk through fire to go for a ride in the truck. For Hobo it is food, for Mama it is the truck.
I hope she will be up to our camping trip planned for this weekend, if not then we won't go. Okay let me get ready to go. I will let you know what the vet says as soon as we get back.

Prayers for Mama. For an old dog of her size, pains and aches can be quite common, and it doesn't take much of a misstep to cause an injury. Hope the vet can give you something to ease her pain.

It was a long and thorough exam by the Vet. This was the first time I had seen Dr. Kelly and I like her a lot. Her specialty is dealing with older dogs with arthritis. She left no stone unturned and treated Mama as if she were her own. The diagnosis is severe arthritis in the shoulder and neck and not much can be done outside of surgery on the shoulder which she doesn’t recommend at this point. She wants to treat Mama with tramadol along with the Medacam for now. She gave Mama her first dose at the office and as I write this post Mama is resting and seems to be doing better.
She wants Mama to lose five pounds and then see where we are. Mama isn’t going to be happy about the weight loss, but she will cope.
That's the best news possible. With the joint strong, metacam and tramadol you've got the bases covered. One other comment, if she isn't getting enough relief, you might try another nsaid. Metacam is great, but each individual is different and previcox, rimadyl or deramaxx might work better on Mama.
