Yesterday was a good day. It sounds as if the Burke County Commissioners have finally come around. Chairman Wayne Crockett has always been a supporter of the Old Fella Rescue but there was opposition from some of the other members. Those who opposed the county helping will no longer be on the board after this summer. The new ones coming on have always been Old Fella friends and have already given Wayne their support. What a long hard fight this has been and now to see it all come together is beyond words and a dream come true.
George DeLoach was Mayor of Waynesboro when Old Fella came on the scene and was helpful in getting the memorial for Old Fella in the City Park. He is an animal lover and a new board member and in favor of animal control. With the support that was already there this addition is enough to give a strong majority. What a great day.

Today is Richard Wagner's 199th birthday. Go hug a valkyrie today
In Norse mythology, a valkyrie (from Old Norse valkyrja "chooser of the slain") is one of a host of female figures who decides who falls and dies in battle. Selecting among half of those who die in battle (the other half go to the goddess Freyja's afterlife field Fólkvangr), the valkyries bring their chosen to the afterlife hall of the slain, Valhalla, ruled over by the god Odin. There, the deceased warriors become einherjar. When the einherjar are not preparing for the events of Ragnarök, the valkyries bear them mead. Valkyries also appear as lovers of heroes and other mortals, where they are sometimes described as the daughters of royalty, sometimes accompanied by ravens, and sometimes connected to swans or horses.
Okay Gary. I called customer service and asked where I could find a Valkyrie so I could hug one and was told to take a hike...
For those who aren't into opera and classical music, "The Ride of the Valkyries" is one of the best known of Wagner's compositions, from Die Walküre (The Valkyrie), the 2nd of the 4 operas that comprise the epic "Ring of the Nibelung" cycle, one of my favorite classical works of all time. The story, based on German and Norse mythology about the Rheingold, the hero Siegfried and the coming of Ragnarok (Twilight of the Gods), includes a love story between Siegfried and the valkyrie Brunhilde, which was hilariously lampooned in the Warner Brothers cartoon "What's Opera, Doc" with Elmer Fudd as Siegfried and Bugs Bunny as Brunhilde.
But enough about classical music, back to the thread...This morning, while I was on the computer, Lily gagged up a little of her breakfast. Before I could turn around and clean up the mess, Molly did it for me...my protector, caregiver and cleanup crew, all in one.
Richard, I have been away for a few days and just saw the post about Januvia. I have been on it now for over a year with no side effects, but I am going to print out your information and take it to the doctor and discuss with him - just in case. Thanks for the update.
