I forgot to mention our little struggle getting into the campsite. As you know I thought long and hard about getting a 4X4, didn't want one. When we got here yesterday I had to back the camper up a steep gravel grade to get into the campsite. In two wheel drive the truck started spinning as the camper started up the grade. I put it into four wheel drive and it pushed the brut right up the grade and into the campsite without any further argument.

I had Missy on the joint strong and she still limped. Started her on Dasuquin and completely different dog. Vet said he had a 12 yr lab with hip problems and this stuff helped her so much she was like a pup. Might be worth a look see. Have a great weekend.

Charmin is on Dasuquin also. I really like the Nutramax products, they are my "premium" choice and also priced as such. The human versions (Cosemin vs Cosequin for dogs) are usually available at discount pharmacies.

Joint Strong, Synovi G3, Glycoflex, Adroitin are all good products. I have lots of animals on gererics they get from Sam's or Costco. My recommendations are to try one product and if it doesn't work, try another. If you have tried a few (including the high priced ones) and don't see any difference within a few months, it may not help OR you may need to use a multiple approach with prescription nSAIDs, pain medications and glyco products- like Richard is doing - joint strong + Metacam + tramadol.

Doug we have tried the SAIDs twice and they had no effect on her at all. So with the risks involved we went the other way. But good to know someone I know has their dog on it too. Does it help her??? Our vet mentioned the Cosemin and Cosequin also. In fact he took it until they made into a chewable, he didn't want to take a dog biscuit. LOL Have a great weekend everyone. And a safe one.

This afternoon Mama is doing much better. I increased her Metacam, Joint Strong and Tramadol this morning and it seems to have helped. I know Mama is an old dog and there are some things that can't be avoided. They are with us far too short as their life span really isn't that long. So I try to make them as comfortable as possible in their golden years. I hope someone does the same for me some day.

We use a combination of the Dasuquin, Rimadyl and Tramadol and he's mobile until about 8 pm - have to plan his last trip out before then otherwise it's a fight The combination is working.

Dasuquin is the newest generation and combination made by Nutramax. It's supposed to be an upgrade from Cosequin - but I still find the Cosequin effective in many cases.

The thing about osteoarthritis medications, they all work better in combination as each attacks the problems in a little different way. Almost every individual needs some kind of combination if they are with us long enough.

As far as nSAIDs, not every one works in every individual and some have reactions to one or another. It's kind of a trial and error method to try to find what works best.

There's one other thing I've found and been using for a couple of years ago, and Tigger did and now Tinker does respond to it better than about anything else (thank heavens, because Tink threw her back out somehow yesterday....).

It's black currant seed oil. Anti-inflammatory, good for the immune system and really helpful for pain. Unlike a lot of things that have to be taken over time to have any effect, this works more like taking an aspirin. I'll take it for minor pain in lieu of an ibuprofen many times. Tink gets one morning and evening and it usually keeps her feeling fine, along with the occaisional adjustment.

Swanson vitamins carries it (www.swansonvitamins.com) and I'm sure other places do as well. Just something to consider for addition to the arsenal.

Good morning. Mama continues to do well. She seems to rebound when she is on a camping trip. The weather is nice and the lake is beautiful. We went for a late evening ride on the lake yesterday and watched a young man with his girlfriend catch a huge Bass.

The kids are out with the pontoon boat while the rest of us are taking it easy sitting in the shade with a nice breeze blowing in off the lake. There was a nice breakfast this morning, enough food for everyone including guest. We seemed to have picked up some extra kids from somewhere, I guess they are following the girls?

We have Joshua's girl friend Maddy and our granddaughter Holly and a friend of theirs. But the math isn't working out as there are three girls and I have lost count of the boys!

Gee, I guess a 4x4 can be beneficial even in the south....
