Old Fella threw up twice yesterday, once in the afternoon and last night at bed time. Maybe it was the shot he got, or maybe he is reacting to the meds he has been taking, could be his new dog food that Sue has prepared for him, then it could be something in the air. Anyway he is off the pain pills as of yesterday but he stays on the Deramaxx which is a prescribed medicine for joint pain. This takes the place of the metacam that he was on for about two years.
This morning he is about the same as he was yesterday at this time. He went outside and made sure that nothing happened over night that didn't meet with his approval. He then went to the kitchen window and let me know he was ready to come in for his breakfast. He refused my help climbing the steps and said he could do it on his own thank you and made his way into the house. After a good morning meal he is now resting next to me as I make this post.
Suzie is in our bedroom laying on the bed looking out the window. This is her morning pearch to watch over the front yard and sidewalk. Nothing gets past her watchful eyes as she waits for Anne or someone else walking their dogs to come by. When she sees something she will come and let me know and beg to go outside. Tomorrow we leave for Hunting Island. This will be a test run to see how well Old Fella and Suzie get along in the rear cab of the truck for three hours. Once Suzie settles down on her portion of the seat then there is enough room for Fella, its just the first few miles that Suzie wants to be all over the back of the cab bouncing from one side to the other.
I will be glad once we get to the island and settle in for the weekend. I do hope Fella is able to enjoy his stay. Okay I have to go for now so I will talk with you later.

Richard,
I stumbled onto this K9 Dog Brace. I wonder if it would help Fella.

Richard, does your truck have HAND HOLDERS, that you hang on to , to get in the truck?????If so, perhaps a lead on Susie, looped around the hand hold, would keep her from wandering on Fellas side of the truck...
Have you taken Fellas temp??? I hope the vomiting stops and he doesnt dehydrate....I used to make broth to give them to keep the liquid level high and flush out the toxic stuff

Fella is feeling well today and is very happy and active {At least for him}. He has followed me about the house and has wanted to go for a walk. He was soooo disappointed when Sue took Suzie and he had to stay home with me.
I do have hand hold grips on the truck. I will have to check them out to see if I can used them to restrain Suzie.

The problem with leashing the dog to something in the car is that in an accident, it is going to hang her. This is not a desirable thing.
If you go down to your local pet store, you should find a harness and seat belt attachment system that will both restrain her and keep her in her place, and protect her in case of an accident. This is a good thing for all dogs to wear while on the road, and especially for a young dog that is still in need of training. You can adjust the tether portion to reduce the amount of moving around she can do. It is how I got the infamous Anna from OK to CA, without her being killed by one of mine or by me for refusing to stop bouncing around. Though I did have to add a mesh muzzle, since she thought that the harness was a chew toy. Once she realized that she couldn't move around freely, and couldn't consume the harness, she went to sleep and was heard from only at stops. Seatbelts for dogs are a VERY good thing.
If your local pet store doesn't have what you need, you should be able to order something online that will suit.

Ah, spring... how do we know when it has finally arrived? Well, when you find yourself putting Petro-malt on your breakfast cereal, spring is sprung!

Heh, heh. Do you remember the picture of Suzie wearing the "control harness" -- I forget exactly what it's called. If her look could kill, both the Daniels would be gone.

Yes, that one says "don't mess with me or I'll have you for dinner". But I seem to remember one wearing the harness/muzzle and showing a more menacing glare.
