Only one cat, Kelly? How boring. We have 2 indoor, and a varying number of outdoor. When I wake up in the middle of the night needing the bathroom, I always have to move a cat or two before I can get up. There is usually one on each side of me.
It was supposed to be cloudy today, getting ready for the rain/snow that is coming, but the clouds didn't make it here. Yet. I guess I should take advantage of the nice day and go get the siding to close off the horse stall. DW and I had a joint brain illumination the other day, the horse stall is built in one corner of the shop, right? The doors are always open, right? There is a LOT of tools in there, and some valuable books and parts, right? Maybe we should close off the stall sides, so we can lock the place up, right? RRIIIGGHHTTT!!!
Our resident ring-neck pheasant is wandering around the ditch bank. What a temptation! But, it would take at least 2 of them to make a good meal for the 4 of us. Oh, well, he is pretty to watch. We seldom see the hens, just the cocks. I wonder if they would eat the bird seed (wild bird food) if I put some out there? We have several dozen finches or some such thing that we feed all winter. Well, OK, year round. Spoiled little dickenses.
Speaking of spoiled, the horses come running when I go into the pasture now, looking for their oatmeal cookie horse treats. Sure didn't take them long to learn that I usually have two for each of them when I go out there.
I suppose I better go get the siding for the closure project and get busy. Oh, wait, there is a pile of snow behind my TWO WHEEL DRIVE truck, I am probably stuck. After all, it is a 4X2, it is a diesel, there is snow and ice in the driveway behind it, on top of loose gravel, and there is no weight in the bed! That truck will NEVER get out of there until the snow melts. To hear some people tell it, that is. I'll take my chances. Oh, wait, again, it is COLD out there, and the engine heater isn't plugged in, it probably won't start anyway. Yeah, right.
Later, Y'all...

DOGGONE, 480 pages, ain't bad for just 4-6 people that have kept this little ole thread going for as long as it has been. Jon, sounds like your staying busy as usual, I agree that a closure would be your best set up. Hope it warms up enough for you to get it done, though, I don't figure cold weather will keep you from your "appointed goal".
Hope everyone is having a great day. Temp's are still "kinda weird" around here, 48 degrees this mroning, 54 degrees right now and sunny. Hey, if it'll save me money on the heating bill, I'll take it. Jon, I believe the "global warming" at this point is just "regional" Hey, if we can get some more precip, in "whatever" form, I'd be happy. Hope all of you are feeling well. Kelly, glad to see you "out & about"
sounds like Joe needs to bag up some of his extra warmer degrees he had this past summer in San Antonio and send them up to you, sounds like you could use them about now. Yo Rosie, where are you?? Jon, Kelly, thanks for the early AM coffee, it was much appreciated, as well as the snacks...ya'll take care, I'm going to let the dogs in, I'll drop back in later.

Got it done. Sort of. There are a few "finishing touches" that should be done, put a few screws along the top, add a couple 2X4s for extra support along the edges, stuff that doesn't HAVE to be done, but it would make it look better. I guess.
No problem at all with the 2 wheel drive truck. Backed over the snow bank and out of the driveway, went and picked up the siding, came home, opened the gates, drove across the dog yard into the pasture, over the snow to the shop, backed up to the horse stall, put up the siding, drove the truck out of the pasture and backed it back where it was before the whole thing started. Never spun a tire. I just don't understand these people who say that a 4X4 is absolutely necessary.
DW is up, gotta go.
Later, y'all, after DW goes to work.
Good job Jon, and I agree about "needing a 4 wheel drive. Though, as you've reminded me before, I'm younger then you, I started driving in 1966, winters WERE snowier,(if that is a word), then they seem to be now. My family NEVER owned a 4 wheel drive, in fact, front engine, rear wheel drive was the family car. This was in WV, we went everywhere we wanted to go, back then, you might not see green in your back yard from Oct. to Mar....maybe later. I personally never owned a 4 wheel drive until 82, a Chevy pick-up. Got rid of several more, then didn't own one from 88-96, just front wheel drive vehicles, again, went everywhere I wanted/needed to go. I believe a lot of it has to do with how well you can drive in the sleet/slush/snow & ice...as Dirty Harry would put it, "a man's gotta know his limitations"....You use common sense and experience when it comes to driving in bad weather, a 4 wheel drive is nice, but one thing about a 4 wheel drive, when your "stuck", YOUR STUCK!!! Nuff said about that. Glad it worked out for you. take care, I'll see ya later.
Morning all; it's 7 degrees this am. Definitely getting to look more like winter. Ah winter; remember winter tires? Four on and four off. Jon, I have 2 cats; one is so mischievous he more than makes up for a couple more. Then add a Great Pyrenees bouncing around playing with 2 cats and believe me you have a house "full". I was going to have 3 cats but once I got "ALVIN" we changed our minds. Then of course there is the 3 animal rule in the city. The excitement did die down a little when we lost our Cockatiel a couple years back. He lived to 22 years. The cats were scared of him. He was quite the character for a bird. Well my cleaning lady will be here shortly; I left some mincemeat tarts by the coffee pot. I hope everyone has a good day.
OK, Kelly, that sounds more like a "normal" household. Since our kid moved home with here kids (and husband, of course), we have three dogs and two cats in the house, plus the "come and go" group of outdoor cats (it varies, three to five), then we got the 2 horses, and all the birds we feed, EGAD, we have a ZOO!!
Well, almost.
Not too bad this morning, only got down to about 18 degrees according to our cheap junk thermometer. I plugged the Liberty in last night, just so it would warm up quicker. No problem about it starting, but the almost instant heat is really nice on a cold morning!
OOOPPSSS, I'm running late, gotta go.
Later, y'all...
Not liking all this cold weather! The worse is yet to come. I would never make it out in MT. Temps up in the 40's, low in low 20's around here. Need to check my door seals for leaks.
I had a nice 2WD Ford ranger years back. Was stuck in my garage once and had to call a neighbor to take me to work due to snow. Switched to 4WD since then. I also got stuck in a some soft sand while trying to back up my TT. Could not have pulled out of there without the 4WD. DW has AWD wagon too.
Jon, are you lusting for another trailer? .

'05 Chevy Silverado 2500 Duramax.
Shun, good to see you in here buddy, the DW's Mitsubishi is also an AWD vehicle, and the TV is a 4by4, sort of like, once you've had one, you kinda like to have at least one, "just in case....".
Kelly, sorry to hear your Manitoba team lost..remember, there's always next year.. oh, thanks for the snack with the coffee, nice touch.
Anyone have any idea where Rosie is? Hope she's ok. Hope all of you are having a great day and that your doing as well as can be expected.
It was nippy this morning, got down to 30 degrees, it's sunny right now and the temp. is 60..truly, some weird weather, hey Jon, try to find something to do with your time,
Yeah, Shun, I have been thinking about a car hauler for quite some time now. I know, the Jeep Wrangler is an EXCELLENT four down toad, but all that wear on those 31X10.50R15 tires, at WELL over $100 each, plus the added wear on the differentials, bearings, U-joints, etc., well, it makes it very attractive to get the Jeep up off the ground. Plus, if I can get one with a 6000 pound payload (that is about the minimum I can use anyway), I can put 3 tons of hay on it, and a ton or so on the truck, and my fall hay hauling will be done in one trip! AND, if somebody's vehicle breaks, I can go get them with the trailer (that happened a couple years ago, youngest son had his transfer case explode 50 miles from home. Luckily, I had his big brother's trailer here at the time, saved a bunch of money!). AND, if I break my Jeep on the slick rock at Moab, I can put it on the trailer and bring it home, to be fixed at my convenience, instead of fixing it immediately so I can tow it home. AND, if I find "yard art" (antique farm equipment), I have a way to get it home without spending money for transport.
Yeah, I'm thinking about another trailer, especially if I could trade the tractor for one.
Jim, I been keeping busy. Why, today, I went out to the shop, turned the radio on, built a fire in my barrel stove, sat down in the recliner that I built from a Nissan truck bucket seat, and slept most of the day. This afternoon, I drilled two holes in a 3-light bar, and mounted it above the workbench, then cam in and fixed dinner (soup and grilled cheese sandwiches). This evening, I went out and started the generator, tested the lights, and discovered that two of the three don't work. Bad bulbs, I hope. Also discovered that the generator doesn't run worth beans when it gets low on gas. So, need to go get gas cans filled tomorrow. NOTE to self: Please put Sta-Bil in the cans before you fill them, thank you. Note from self: Yes, I will try to remember that, thanks for the reminder.
Time to finish my tea, find a good book, and go soak the aching bod in a hot bath.
Actually, I LIKE 4X4!. I have my Jeep Wrangler 4X4, DW has her Jeep Liberty 4X4, son has Dodge Durango, other son has 3 4X4s, other son has Dodge Ram 4X4 I have had 4X4 pickups (mostly Dodges) since about 1970. All the scare stories from the doomsayers and naysayers just bug me, is all. "4X2 pickups will get stick on a wet leaf!" "4X2 pickups will get stuck on wet grass!" "You can't launch or recover a boat with a 4X2!" et cetera, ad infinitum. Yeah, right.
See y'all tomorra morning if I get up in time. If not then, later in the day.

Good morning all. It's a lovely -5 this am. I'm waiting for the temperature to really dip until ask Joe to send me up some warm weather. Looks like I'll get a visit from the best girlfriend soon. She's looking for a used vehicle and there's not much to choose from in her small town. She lives out of province so I don't get to see her too often. The house will be full with animals and a couple of kids running after the animals. I have my tree up already so it'll have a festive feel to it all. I'm on the slow side today so I'll get a few things done and park myself in my chair. Hope everyone has a good day. Take care and I'll check in later.
Ok, now what's with this "Your message containts invalid formatting"?
This is a first. Perhaps this indicates what kind of day I'm going to have?
