rosie, the base antenna has two loops on the bottom, both are connected to the coax center conductor, and to the vertical radiator. the horizontal ground planes are connected to the coax braid.
My base station is a President SSB/AM, with an Astatic D-104 "lollipop" mic. I have a President Lincoln SSB/AM radio in the Rubicon, and a Midland AM in the truck, and another Midland AM/weather band in the boat.
Then about half a dozen assorted radios not currently in use, Cobra, Midland, Radio Shack, etc.
I used to talk to Florida quite often with my old Stoner Pro-40, and a Starduster antenna, from Northwest Montana. Even got into Australia a few times!
CB was fun in the '70s.

Well, you got me there Joe, I have no idea what kind of antenna you have. But from the length of the center pole, I still say it has to be a 3/4 wave. I was thinking you had a super mag. Those were very good ground planes. I had a friend in Ct who liked those presidents too. I believe, not sure that the mike you have on it must be a D104 with the built in modulator. Mine is not built in, as the radio itself has the modulator. The Trams were 40 channel ssb's. Mine could slide a little, if you are into cb's you know what I mean. I haven't had it set up for quite a number of years tho. Like you , I use to talk a little skip. Now that was fun, just to see how far you could talk, and I did make it over seas a bit too. I ran the super mag and had a set of stacked 3's for directional. Did you collect the swap cards also? I had a whole great big stack of them that I finally tossed out when we moved south. My gosh, I haven't talked cb in so many years that I have lost some of the terminology. Well, got to get going here, I need to go get about a ton of top soil for my flowers. you all have a good one.

Finally some spring weather today, forcast of 70! Been thinking of getting a portable CB for RV trips. Much chatter on the CB these days on the road? I hope to get traffic info mostly.

Tried to post last night and got "knocked off", so, though I wrote a post...it didn't get posted. Jon, it was in reference to your post about cb's..I had a Siltronix 1011D that I had, shall we say, modified back in 75'. I had an AS directional antenna and the radio covered 10 & 11 meters, upper and lower sideband. I also had a Tram Diamond 60 mobile, this one was only 23 channel, but I, again, modified it, to where it covered just about all of 11 meters,(with a slider), and some 10 meter, it was also upper and lower sideband. I drove the DW crazy. When we moved in 79', I had no huge pine tree to take the top out of to put my directional antenna in,()..which probably made my wife happy. I had a 100 watt bi-linear in the mobile with the Tram, talked all over the south east and north east of the USA. With the Siltronix, I talked to all 50 states, quite a bit of South America and most countries in Europe...still have a pile of "QSO" cards from people that I corrosponded with back then...Last thing I had was a Sony 2010 receiver, 160 meter upper and lower sideband, AM, weather and airband radio..it was awesome..yeah, drove my wife crazy with that also...SON, wish I had that back. Took a metal slinky and streched it out up in an attic...a heck of an antenna..Rosie, I also had a D04 mic with the Siltronix..actually had my "morse code" for being a ham radio operator...they don't do that anymore, but with job losses, school, kids in sports, the ham radio license fell along the wayside...I got to get me another one of those Sony 160 meter receivers...You could listen all over the world, it was great...

Yeah, I'm done, it was 38 degrees this morning, it is a sunny, warm 60 degrees right now, thought we had dodged the "freeze bullet", but understand that it COULD freeze tonight..then, hopefully, that'll be it..hopefully, we won't get it here.
Leaving tomorrow afternoon for Sevierville Tn around 4:00 tomorrow afternoon..we'll be there till Sunday. Ya'll take it easy and keep us going, hope you have a great day, I'll catch ya'll later

Hello all! Downstairs at this crazy hour and thought I would pop in to say I'm still here. It's 39 F here now but I still have some snow in the backyard. Getting itchy feet; camping of course. We have our May long weekend reserved. Now we keep our fingers crossed the weather will be good for fishing.
I'm taking along my ski pants "just" in case! I'm watching the fuel prices up here as well. Presently; if my conversion is correct; it work out to be $4.51 per gallon. We'll need to fill the extra tank so I'm saving up for that. Not sure if we'll get any holidays this year with the DH having to take extra time at the beginning of the year. We're hoping we'll get at least a week. We would love to get some fall fishing in this year. Well it's late/early however one takes this hour. I've set the coffee pot and I left some fresh biscuits next to the coffee maker. Have a great day everyone!

I suppose I can't really complain too much about diesel prices. Europe and Canada pay even more. Wonder what it sells for in Mexico? Forecast shows temps to be reliably above freezing.
Finished a few chores yesterday left over from last fall. Tried to bag some leaves, but wind was very strong. Fired up the blower and "helped" the the wind help me. Got rid of a bunch of leaves, but then felt a little guilty since neighbor's yard started to look bad.

Kelly, great to see you in here young lady. Hope your feeling better
and hope you get your camping and fishing trips in this years. Shun, I've also used the wind to help me get leaves up...it definitely helps if it's working in the same direction you need to go.
Well, it got down to 30 degrees here last night, but I didn't see any frost in my area. Suppose to start warming up now. Going to hit the mid 60's today.
Guess we'll head to Sevierville around 4:00...I'm at work..gotta roll, ya'll take care, have a great day and a great weekend. Lord willing, see you back in here Sunday....bye for now.

Cloudy and cool today. Rained a little last night, enough to settle the dust but not enough to do any good. There were ice crystals on the deck this morning!
Not much else new and exciting around here
I guess I better go throw some hay to the horses, and let the dogs in to get a drink. Stupid animals, if I put a dish of water out for them, they won't drink it. They have to come in the house and use that water dish! Hmmmm...maybe, if I put that one outside, and get a new one for the house... What the heck, it's worth a try!
Jim, you drive careful, y'heah?
Catch y'all later...

Well today here is going to be a long one. This morning I am going to the library to listen to the "story lady". ( did I mention that Miss Abigail is in residence ) Then we get to hit good ol Mackie D"s and then head on out for Monkey Joe's. By the time this day is over , old Grams will need a warm cozy bed I do have fun tho, and I want to get Abi use to visiting the library. Glad to hear your words again Kelly, and love those biscuits, any gravy to go with them ? Well, I am off to see the wizard, you all have a good un.

I guess, if the weather man is right, I best enjoy today and tomorrow. He says that over the weekend we are going to get another blast of winter, cold, rain, snow, maybe even enough snow for some buildup! Hopefully this system will pass on by and not get us too bad, although, as usual, we need the moisture. Sure wish we could get the moisture without the cold, though!
Be careful, Rosie, all that energy you have lost over the years has been infused into that youngster. You can't keep up all day. I admit, it is fun to try, though. Have a good day.
Kelly, the biscuits were great, especially with the orange marmalade I put out to go with them. My coffee mug is full, just sitting back waiting for that bright sun to warm thing up a little more, then I need to get to work. Gotta check out the tractor, I hit a fence post with the mower deck and it looks a little cattywhompus now, have to get it levelled again before I can use it.
The grass is growing, it won't be long...
Come to think of it, I haven't ordered the mulching kit yet. best get that done!
Later, y'all...
