Hi!
I can definately help you with this one. Ocean lakes hands down. We have been staying here for years now and it offers quite a bit for everyone. They have also just recently renovated their whole pool area to include a "new" minature golf course, small water slide area and moved the arcade and snack bar to this area too. There is one large outdoor pool, a medium sized indoor pool and 2 small kiddie pools. A great big outdoor boardwalk overlook on the beachfront, playgrounds, aircondtioned and heated bathhouses, planned activties if you wish to attend, golf carts galore, and a great campstore, laundry mats, and a few extra snack bars around. I don't think you'll get quite the bang for your buck at Lakewood, although it is a nice place. This is definately a family atmosphere and they patrol the campground regularly with their own security guards. I highly recommend Ocean lakes. The only problem may be, it is one of Myrtle beaches most popular campgrounds and getting a space can be a bear. If your persistant and keep trying over and over you may luck up and get the days you want but you will have to press for it. I was stunned to learned Easter weekend was sold out. Since it is so large you may have luck if your traveling early in the season though. Have fun!
I have stayed at both and IMHO, each has it's advantages. I personally like Lakewood a little better but would probably go with the best price. Ocean Lakes is a little bigger, I think. The sites at Lakewood are just a little nicer. One nice thing there with kids is the ice cream social each Wednesday night. Take your own bowl and all you can eat of high quality ice cream, multiple flavors for $2. Both have pools and miniature golf. One concern at Lakewood, they prohibit certain breeds of dogs so check with them as to which ones. They are side by side with equal beach access. Both have cable and telephone. Ocean Lakes has a lot of rallies but we often just walked next door while at Lakewood and visited the vendors there during the rallies. You can't go wrong either way. Have a great time.

Lakewood is my choice...although they don't offer pull-thru's,they make up for it in other things.Lakewood camping felt more like "camping".Ocean Lakes felt commercial.Lakewood was relaxing(we sat under the awning listening to the show, watching the waves come in,and people watching).
Ocean Lakes is probably more upper class. You can't lose with either choice you make. As far as Pirateland....No Way! Couldn't get my awning out because of that stupid pavilion, and you can't see the water because of the dunes.Just my .02 cents worth.
Appreciate all your help. We booked at Ocean Lakes. Seems either place would be a lot of fun for the family. While we're there we'll check out some other places. This forum is sure helpful.
I had to change a couple of different sites reservations at Ocean Lakes because they were not able to accommodate a 28' TT with a Slide room and awning. One site they were offering us was just 28 feet long - the TT would just fit. The other site was long enough, however we would not be able to put out the awning. The other site would not accommodate a slide room. I think its too commercial...although it does offer alot.
We are heading to Myrtle Beach in April and are staying at Pirateland. I did not realize you can't see the ocean from the site...we have an oceanfront site.
All in all, I hope we have warm weather, the rest will be fun and natural.

Not to make things any more difficult but another consideration for camping when you're in MB is in North MB and that's at Myrtle Beach Travel Park. Have never stayed at Oceanlakes or Lakewood but have stayed at Pirateland. It's Ok but prefer NMBTP. Much more to do in north MB than down if you are looking for the tourist traps. Hollywood planet, Nascar Cafe, water park, Aquarian, Broadway on the Beach and many others on Hwy 17 thats to numerous to mention. I'm not associated with this campground in any way, just have had good experiences there. They always say the best advertisement is word of mouth. Wherever you decide I hope you have a wonderful time. MB is a great family place to visit.
