Mr. Ed;
Our 8.3 Cummins uses no oil between 3000 mile changes with Shell Rotella at 87000 miles.

My V-10 has not used any oil between changes every 3000 miles. I use whatever is on sale, mostly quaker state or valvoline.

My first class A was a Chev 454. Sold it at about 60K miles. Used less than 1/2Q between changes at typically 3,000 miles.
My present class A is a Ford, 460, with about 40K miles. This uses no oil that I can detect between changes.
I use Amzoil (spelling looks wrong) 15-40 in the summer, 10-30 in the spring and late fall.

I have noticed that depending how one drives will also effect oil useage. Flat land driving is easyer on the engine. Pulling a toad or heavy trailer and big hills will make the engine work harder, run hotter and tends to make the engine use some oil. Most engines will use about a quart between oil changes.

We have had the Ford V-10 in two rigs, and I have yet to add oil between changes. I think it was down about half a quart when I changed at 4000 miles. Currently using Motocraft 5W-20, just like the book says to do.

Thanks for the response, fellas. I thought I had a real good thing going, but it seems that many of you are getting decent mileage from your oil. Of course, low oil consumption is a sign of a good engine. I remember about 2 yrs ago, I was taking a trip to AZ from CA. Hadn't taken a long trip in quite a while. I was suprised to see quite a bit of oil consumption at the beginning of this relatively short trip. After a little while, though, the excessive consumption stopped. I can only surmize (sp) that since I hadn't really run it for a while, the rings had to reseat (?). Anyway, I'm pleased. Happy rving to all of you.

Mr.ED:
On our Ford 460, we hardly need to addoil between oil changes. Maybe....MAYBE....a 1/2 Qt in 5,000 miles. Thank God because I've heard some horror stories!

2001 Ford V-10, using the factory recommended 5W-20. Was concerned about oil consumption when engine was brand new, but now at 5800 miles, have not used a full quart in almost 3000 miles. Ran VA-FL-VA in January at 60-65 MPH, too.

Just returned yesterday from a Delaware-Key West-Delaware trip and used less than a quart. 2001 V-10 has only 6500 miles on now.

Mr. Ed
My oil usage depends upon my right foot ! My 89 454 (60-k) uses about 1qt every 1200 to 1500 miles if I drive 55 mph. At 70 mph during the summer 1qt every 600-800 miles is not uncommon.
I also use Vavoline Syntec 10w30 9 months out of the year. During the summer I change to 20w50 it seems to cut down on consumption.
