The owners manual on my "03" Dodge Cummins Diesel calls for Automatic transmission fluid in the 6spd manual transmission with no interval to change it out. Has anyone changed it out to a Synthetic auto trans fluid and at what interval? Also wondering if it would void the warranty.

If you have the NV5600 it does not use auto transmission fluid! Unbelievably the manual says it is not necessary to change the oil in the tranny but only to check it an top it off. I think it should be changed just like all the other fluids.
The Redline MTL is a good replacement but the oil called for by the Owner's Manual is Mopar part number 4874464 and this should be in the back of your Owner's Manual.
Type "part number 4874464" into a google search and read up on some of the links.
Pennzoil/Quakerstate Synchromesh same as DC Manual Fluid 4874464 (GL-4 spec)
Check the below link for some other information.

You're not thinking of the transfer case, are you? That one uses Automatic Transmission fluid.

I know mine is a NV4500 but as others have said, mine takes a special part # fluid. I had to replace the 5th gear nut and part of that was to drain the fluid out of the trans. My truck has 186K on her and was getting kinda hard to get into gear. When I put in the new fluid it was like a brand new trans!! It would go into 2nd and reverse better than ever!
So, yes, I would change it, but not till 100K miles

Thanks for all the info. Somewhere I thought I read in my owners manual that Dodge used auto transmission fluid in the NV5600 6spd manual tranny. However, after re-reading my mannual, I quess it was a case of old age . Anyway thanks for the all of the good advice. I will be changing my transmission fluid soon, as I have 66K miles on it.

One last note, before you drain the fluid make sure you can get the fill plug out. I have read where some people have had a problem getting the fill plug out and that could be a problem if you had already drained the oil out of the tranny. I changed out the O2 sensor in my last gasser and it took about 3 days worth of trying and soaking with penetrating oils before it came loose.
