I was in WalMart in the auto dept. getting oil last night, and saw the gray plastic drive-on Rhino 12,000 lb.* capacity ramps that I've often mentioned. Less than $29, and as good for 'B' DIY wrench-twisting as you'll find, IMO. IIRC, I paid about $40 at the auto parts store, several years ago.

Go get 'em! Charge!

Jim, "Veni, vedi, Visa... I came, I saw, I did a little shopping."

(* I'm reasonably sure that the 12,000 lb. is maximum total vehicle weight, not actual ramp capacity.)

Just bought a pair at Wal-Mart two weeks ago. Replaced may old bent and badly rusted steel ramps.

Handbasket,

I really enjoy your posts. Thank you for a laugh today.
I got IMO, but what's IIRC?
And now for a stupid question- what are those ramps for? How many do you need? Maybe I'll go get (?) one even though I don't have my class B yet.

The ramps are for getting underneath for mechanical stuff...very useful for those of us who fiddle with the greasy bits. I just had the Tiger up on mine this AM for an oil change and lube job.

IIRC... If I Recall Correctly.

Prices are really down on those ramps. I paid about $40 for 5000 pound ramps at the auto store several years ago. Really are convenient for working underneath, especially for my little Miata.

I can't use ramps, although I own those exact ones. I use 2"x8" boards stacked. The ground effects in the front are too low to get the tire to the ramp. My homemade ones are 6' long and I have a 4' and a 2-1/2' stacked. They are really easy to drive up and don't hit anything. Unlike domestic vans, the only thing you do under the Sprinter is drain the oil. The oil filter is on top of the motor and is under a cap, very easy to change and not messy at all. No grease zerks, everything is sealed.

I don't need ramps. I can do the oil change without them. Now if I needed to drop a tank that would be interesting or impossible..
Interesting that your ground effects are that low...

I bought steel ramps at a Target over 30 years ago and still have them. Since I don't bother to change my own oil anymore I hadn't used them in maybe over 20 years. Yet they are still there in my garage along with a lot of other "stuff" I may need some day.

What's the min rating of ramp one should use for one ton camper vans? They come in 6500Ibs, 9,000 and 12,000 in most stores.

Sounds like me. I had steel ramps for at least 30 years until we downsized right out of space to keep "stuff". I now have a garage for the RV but I am trying to avoid accumulating more stuff for my kids/grandkids to get rid of.
