I decided that this was a new topic mainly because, to my chagrin, I purchased the aluminum replacement and found that I do not need it.
I do not know if it is because my van is a 2004 or because when Gulf Stream was doing the conversion, which includes a new front fascia as part of the body kit, but the plastic resonator is not on my van. Actually, there is no resonator on my van. The turbo outlet has a hose on it like every other turbo I've ever owned.
I bought this in January without looking at my van and until last week I hadn't driven it. So, I went out armed with the part, instructions and tools to install the replacement and didn't have a resonator to replace.
So, I you have a Sprinter and desire to replace your plastic resonator with an aluminum one, 2 tips; Look first and be sure you have a plastic one. Second, buy mine because I don't need it. lol

There was a time when Mercedes did not add the resonator.

That is probably why the hose assembly on mine looks correct. It doesn't look like anything was modified.

That makes it clear to me why when camping a few weeks ago I saw an Airstream/Westy conversion and spoke with the owner about the turbo resonator problem. I couldn't see one in his and thought that was strange. His Sprinter must have been an '04. I have had my replacement part for several months now and happy its there. Ron

I've been following the resonators gone bad story for some time and for the life of me could not find one on my 04 Sprinter. I just thought I didn't know where to look! Thanks for clearing things up for me.

Yes, it is clearly something that has been added. As I pointed out on the first thread, the 2006 service manual doesn't even show it but the parts manual does as someone else pointed out.

ecklein, I'm sure the 2006 has a resonator. As I understand it, the item was added either in the late 2004 model run or beginning with the 2005. Ours is a 2005 and it is most assuredly there; reading in this and the Sprinter Forum (www.sprinter-cource.com) I understand the resonator has been a part of the Sprinter until the end of production of this version of Sprinter.

Wow. Talk about stepping up.
What company was that? I may need to buy something from him.

It's too late, I e-mailed them a couple of weeks ago and got no response, so I posted it for sale on another website and it's sold. I lost a few dollars but, I didn't want to get stuck with a $100 paperweight.
Oh well, next time I'll look before I buy.

jriordan , There are probably hundreds of expediter owner operators that could use your part . An expediter runs 24/7 with tight deadlines .
