For those of you that don't know the story I will give you a brief update.

Dixie Flyer of "The Old Fella Burke County Animal Rescue" took in a young female yellow lab. This poor girl had a front leg with nerve damage. The best option was to remove the leg. Richard "Dixie Flyer" was concerned that poor Anna would not be a desirable pet after this surgery. Having gown up with a 3 legged lab as a child, I volunteered to give Anna a forever home here in Washington State. I have 2 1/2 year old & 12 1/2 year old Golden Retrievers now.(on edit we lost out 12 1/2 year old Golden in July of 2007).

Anna has had her surgery and is doing VERY well. She either has had or is about to be spayed and will be ready to travel soon.

Several folks have already volunteered to help relay Anna to her new forever home. However we may still need to fill in some spots.

So, for the folks that have graciously volunteered your time, please post with the areas your willing to cover. Dates will be more important as the relay start date comes (looks like the first week of May if I am correct). This should help us see where we may need more folks the fill in the blanks.

So far Dixie Flyer, Mistressofdistress, Mickey T, Code2High, joelbaker, Pauls^lady, Buz2b, Golden_HVAC & myself are in the program. If I left anyone out I apologize, please post here and we can get the list updated.

For everyone who has volunteered so far, we thank you from the bottoms of our hearts. It makes me proud to know so many people are willing to help in the project.

For the folks that are unable to help, but want to track Anna and her progress before, during & after the relay please feel free to post and keep track of this thread. Also Anna has her own web page now. I will be posting pictures after she arrives here. For now here are some pictures posted by Dixie Flyer of Anna after surgery!

Tia's story in Highways Magazine!

Fast forward to August 2008. Tia has become one of the most loving companions I have ever had. She rides with me everyday in my work truck. Making friends and spreading the story of how she made her way into our lives. She has also become our family's protector. Letting us know when things just are not quite right!

The way the dates look is this. I will be arriving in Tulsa on the evening of May 1. Leaving on the morning of May 8. Somewhere in between, I will get Anna from Mickey T. Dates for that could be, from my end, May 3, possibly May 4, May 6 or May 7. So that trip needs to happen in a way that lets Mickey and me get together one of those days to make the exchange.

We will head back for LA on May 8 in the am, arriving the evening of the Tenth. After that I anticipate needing a few days rest before heading up to meet whoever is going to get her from me in, say, Bakersfield or Fresno or anywhere between here or there.

Say from May 14th, we could start the trip north? If something really needs to be done earlier, it might could be arranged, but my preference would be to be able to collapse a few days, first. May 14 is a Monday, btw. Now, we can wait longer.... we'll start whenever the next person up is ready to go, I guess.

Don't forget mistressofdistress who will meet me {Dixie Flyer} in Birmingham to take her to Memphis, Tennessee where she will be picked up by Mickey T. If I leave for Birmingham on the 4th of May will that work out for Mary Ray and Mickey T or do I need to leave a day earlier say the 3rd?

Is there anyone that can bring Anna from Code2High (Bakersfield/Fresno) on up closer to N.CA or Oregon to meet us?

I am taking a road trip to see some friends in Tulsa... it seemed like an opportune time to get her across the country, so I will be bringing her back with me. So, yes, driving all the way there and back with the girls and one other human, and bringing her back here... but no the trip isn't "just" for that.

My miles need to be broken into two days so I can travel while the kids are in school and be home to pick them up.

LR-Memphis-LR is about a 5.5-6 hour round trip

As for the second leg of my transport, Susan, what works best for you?

Also, I am set up to foster for a few days if everyone's timing doesn't mesh perfectly. So if Richard or MOD need to transport on the early-side but Susan can't take Anna2 until later, she can easily stay here in the interim. Now that I've said that, I'll probably get a slew of fosters...yikes!

I just responded to Susan's PM. I am about 4 hours outside of Fresno but am willing to take her up to around Redding. I am going to post a link to this thread to two rally threads that may have people who can help with the Bakersfield to San Jose or somewhere closer part. Also, I can ONLY do this on a weekend, as I've recently taken a very full time job.

I can probably do Redding if it's on a Friday or Saturday. We can bring Anna here overnight with us and meet her new family the next day. Any further north than Redding would be great but we are willing to do that.
