The fuse in our '05 CRV is difficult to remove and replace. We just remove the fuse at the start of a trip and leave it out for the duration. The only problem is the radio does not work and you must place the transmission in park before removing the key, otherwise no problem. I do plan to add the switch before the next trip.

We too took the CRV EX-L/Nav AWD plunge about two weeks ago. Had the Blue Ox base, Stirling All Terain and US Gear brake system installed by San Diego Trailer (no staying power, open 1940's!). Very clean job.

We plan to try towing withoug pulling the fuse, as the US Gear provides power to the toad. I will ask the Dealer for some help on how to turn off the Nav, or hit one of the many CRV boards.

Hope this works out well..
Best to all,

Gsmitty77, I'm taking my new 2007 CR-V to have the base plate, etc. put on. I've only had my Honda for a week and after reading about the fuse issue, I started messing with the nav, etc.. to see if I could turn it off. This is what I found...

When you turn the key to the first notch, the nav comes on. Don't hit OK...let the unit flip to the clock display. At the bottom left, there is a button that says "Display off"... hit that and the screen goes black.

Pushing the volume button will turn off the radio. Even though the screen is black, I know that the system is still 'on'. But, I'm thinking that it will use less amps in that mode so maybe I can tow without pulling the fuse. I'm sure going to try it and see if I get a dead battery.

I'm not sure if my towing set-up will send 'juice' to the CR-V but we'll see as I'm having it installed Wednesday.

Also, I'm having the Hitch guys run an air-hose to the Honda from the coach to give the Honda the use of the RV's air brake system. They tell me that when I apply the brakes on the coach, the Honda will have the exact same pressure applied for even braking. The benefit is not having to remove a brake buddy, etc.

Thanks Mr. Mark,

I'll go thru the navigation screen the way you suggest, I concur that a blank screen should use less juice.

Your braking system setup sounds pretty slick. Does it also have a break away safety capability? Or, by being hooked into the Rigs braking, does it loose break away stopping capability?

(Note: Just wondering. I don't ever want to say 'never happen', cause sure enough then it will... But the combination of tow hitch and safety cables seems pretty solid to me - as long as I keep checking the set-up and conditions...)

Gsmitty77... I'm sure my towing set-up will have break-away.. I think that is the law. But, I'll know for sure on Wednesday when the installation takes place.

I'm getting the Blue Ox Aventa II so I would hope that it has the break-away feature.

I'll post back when the work is done.

By the way... I'm driving up the Oregon coast... gorgeous! The factory is in Coburg, OR.

I have now towed the new Honda about 200 miles with the new Blue Ox system with all the connections.., etc, etc... (it has break-a-way). Everything seems to be working great. I turned off the navigation display screen as I mentioned a few posts ago.

I think I'll just tow the Honda without pulling the fuse. My towing hours will not be too long and re-starting the car at the end of the day should work for re-charging the battery.

Have a 2006 CR-V. When wiring up lights I ran a fifth wire that is fused at both MH and CR-V that keeps battery charged.

Two things you can look at, one a charge wire from your coach house batteries to the car battery through your light cord like I did, or have a switch put in at the fuse box and wired back to some place on the dash.

Both work fine

I am considering a 2007 Honda CRV to tow behind my RV. The only problem I see is removing the appropriate fuse every time we make a long trip. The dealer I went to (who didn't really seem too knowledgeable about tow issues) showed me the fuse box where the fuse to be removed is located. It's inside the car under the dash on the driver's side, and seems really hard to get to (any my close-up vision for locating the proper fuse isn't what it used to be). He said before towing it on a long trip, you have to take the fuse out, and before you drive the car, you have to put it back in. Then before you tow again, you have to remove it again. Because of its location, this really seems like a headache. I would prefer to just leave the fuse out, but he said you couldn't do that. If anyone has a 2007 CRV, have you found any easy solutions to this issue - and is the fuse as hard to get to as it seems?

Thank you

Update.. have towed the 2007 Honda CR-V about 1,500 miles and it works perfectly without pulling the fuse. I restart the Honda at every stop, pull the keys (if going into a restaurant) and this procedure seems to work fine.

The 'dummy' key that I had the dealer make does not turn the ignition. The goes in but will not turn. It will lock/unlock the doors in the door handle key-hole.

So far, I just don't see a problem using the regular keys as I pull them out when I stop anyway.

Update... the Honda CR-V has a dead battery. I have towed for 2,500 miles and this is the first hint of trouble. Today, I had my lights on while driving the motorhome which also puts the rear lights on the Honda. I didn't start it at every stop so it's my fault.

I really don't want to worry about pulling the fuse but I will if starting at every stop doesn't work.

Hmmm.... a little ketchup with crow isn't so bad! LOL!
