With the U. S. Gear Brake system, there is a Hot Wire that runs from the positive terminal Motorhome Chassis battery, through a 20 amp breaker, back to the CRV and then through another 20 Amp Circuit Breaker and then to the positive terminal of the CRV battery. When driving the MH, the MH alternator keeps the CRV battery charged. I do turn off the radio and the AC/Heater fan switch. Have towed for more than 20,000 miles and have never had a low battery. This wire is included in the umbilica cord that contains the tail lights, brake lights, turn lights, ground wire, and brake activation wire.
You do not have to have the U. S. Gear unified brake system to add the "Charge Wire". Just look at the wiring diagram at the link below and notice the MH battery, the 20 amp breaker, the CRV battery, and the 20 Amp breaker in the drawing and run your own wire.
Here is the link.

The fuse in our '05 CRV is difficult to remove and replace. We just remove the fuse at the start of a trip and leave it out for the duration. The only problem is the radio does not work and you must place the transmission in park before removing the key, otherwise no problem. I do plan to add the switch before the next trip.

I just got the switch installed yesterday and it works great! I installed the Radio Shack switch in one of the blank switch plates in the dash. I soldered the leads to the the fuse tips I removed from an existing fuse. Very easy.

Update... I decided to have a switch installed on my 2007 Honda CR-V so that I don't have to remove fuse #34. The repair facility that performed the task did an excellent job. They soldered a wire to fuse #34 and ran a cut off switch on the dash.

On the right side of the steering wheel there is a blank cover on the dash. The technician installed a toggle switch that will turn off the radio/nav. When I toggle the switch back on, everything is perfect. I don't have to reset times, radio stations or anything. The total job cost was $198.

Hopefully, no dead battery in the future.

Most people kill their battery in the CRV by leaving the fan on. Be sure to turn it off or you will kill the battery in a day.

Quick question for all, we have our new CRV but haven't towed it yet. Does it accumulate mileage while towing?

We are approaching 5000 miles towing 07 CRV with NAV. I called Honda technical for info on battery/fuse pulling.Tech suggested that up to 8 hours is ok without pulling fuse. When we travel, I simply start the car when we break for lunch/rest, etc. and let it run to top off the battery (Honda suggested) - also gives me a chance to redo the towing transmission set up which, I feel, cannot hurt to recirculate the fluids. If I had to pull the fuse I would install a disconnect switch - fuse is too inconvenient to get to.Odometer does not accumulate mileage unless you leave key at position II instead of I - don't ask me how I know.

We have towed our 2008 for about 6K miles this year. We have the US Gear brake system and have never had a battery problem. As other posters have mentioned, I turn off the NAVI and run through the transmission procedure whenever we stop.

Chevylover1965,

As long as the Navi is on, you are using the battery. I even turned off the screen on my navi but it did eventually run down the battery at 3,000 miles. I even started the Honda at every stop but it was not enough.

I hope that yours lasts longer!

We too took the CRV EX-L/Nav AWD plunge about two weeks ago. Had the Blue Ox base, Stirling All Terain and US Gear brake system installed by San Diego Trailer (no staying power, open 1940's!). Very clean job.

We plan to try towing withoug pulling the fuse, as the US Gear provides power to the toad. I will ask the Dealer for some help on how to turn off the Nav, or hit one of the many CRV boards.

Hope this works out well..
Best to all,
Smitty

Err.. how does the US Gear provide power to the toad? Not clear on this...
