Mooney, Mooney.... That truck would look great in front of Cold Springs Tavern surrounded by motorbikes.
I can speak to the first year of a 6.0 production purchase. I bought an 03 350 used with 29,000 miles in 11/05. Complete service records available with no hickies. (38,000 mile now)
Since then...
1. One new turbocharger
2. Complete set of injectors
3. New oily driveway the result of a leaking baseplate(?) - basically the engine is coming out and being split in two and resealed next week.
4. Oh yeah, a squirrel chewed heck out of insulation and wiring under hood to the tune of 500 bucks - can I blame that on first year design too?
I'd wait - though when I left the beast at the dealer today I did sit in a 450.... I could be persuaded.......

Below 32 ? Try below zero and down to -60 I talked to a guy that was driving one when he was fueling up at Colville in Prudhoe Bay. He said that the one he was driving was trouble free but the other one was not, he did not go into detail but they had some problems.

Hoss427 wrote: All over the road diesel in the US is the NEW ultra low sulfur. You say you can't find it? If there is diesel being sold in your town its the new ULSD. It been the law since Oct 15, 2006. The old diesel can only be sold for off road, mineing, Locomotive.
I don't think that is correct. Up here in Alaska we have low-sulfur and Ultra low-sulfur(ULSD). Just North of Coldfoot on the Dalton highway there is a sign that reads "The availability of Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel is not guaranteed beyond this point." They have all kinds of low sulfur diesel in Prudhoe Bay but only one pump labeled ULSD and it would not even pump the last time I tried it. From what I understand ULSD is for 2007 and newer trucks and low sulfur can still be used in the older ones. If your local station only has one nozzle for Diesel then it is probably ULSD.

I test drove a brand new F450 Lariat 4x4 pick just the other day.
Payload was only 5214 lbs. for cargo AND occupants, so by my calculations loaded up I would be under GVWR by only 200-250 lbs.
Not a lot left for hitch weight Mooney.......

F450 pickup = GVWR 14,500
F450 Chassis Cab = 16,000
F550 Chassis Cab = 17,950
An F550 diesel crew cab 4x4 with a pickup bed (custom upfitter) would have a cargo carrying capacity (CCC) of approximately 8,400 lbs (depending on options)
This would be plenty for any camper I can think of

Keep in mind that a chassis cab 550 will most likely weigh 10500 pounds with a bed and full fuel. Still quite a bit of payload.

btggraphix wrote: I haven't been reading too much on the early reports on the 6.4 (just the flame-throwing exhaust but that sounds cool...) but I agree with Jeff3161, the 6.0's had issues immediately...so I'm going to figure they probably will be OK.
The first 7.3's were fine also. Then about 2 years later we started reading about cavitational pitting problems because International had forgot to tell Ford to put DCA in the coolant.
The only reason I knew about DCA (FW-15 back then) was because I had read about it on the Powerstroke forum.
I would like to trust Ford/Navistar on that new 6.4, but there just ain't no way I can given their diesel history. I will have to see results. The 6.4 has all kinds on brand new stuff on it that may or may not work out over the long run.
