Well hello there all. Something that I thought I would write about is critters. Here in Tennessee (and perhaps everywhere) we techs see a lot of repairs that are due to insects getting into the hot water heater and coach heater vents. What happens is wasps and other critters build nests in there and the result is usually inoperative situations and perhaps fires but I havent seen that yet.
Our dealership has a knack for selling screens that go over the vent openings where critters can get into. These screens are not cheap but the simple fact is they can save a lot of headaches and money. It is fair to say that anyone that is resourcful can make thier own screens or at the least when the unit is in storage put duct tape over the openings. Doing this can keep you from seeing me.

Mechanics cloth over the refrigerator vents can keep squirrels from wreaking havoc with insulation and wiring. Same goes for air conditioners.

Duct tape only if you are really really wanting to save money and don't mind trying to clean goo off the side. The S/S mesh works great, especially for the mud wasp. The hardware cloth might be too coarse. The screens are pricey, but when you are cleaning off the duct tape goo, it might seem to be a good buy.

Funny. Yes the goo is bad. We use brake parts cleaner. It removes all the sticky crap. Friday I resealed a roof with Di-Cor. The customer brought in his rig because the side of the unit was delaminating at the front. Well it turns out the roof leaked and so I had to peel back the membrane and it is sitting over the weekend drying out. With some luck I can replace the rotted section of the roof and then re-glue the side to dry material.
I was thankfully able to talk the owner into letting me re-seal the entire roof since the seals were all cracked and surely the same result would materialize again somewhere else on his roof if he did not have this done.
Anyways he should be set for a few more years till his roof membrane is shot.
