We stayed at TP last October the rate was 24.00 per night as it had been for the last 4 years we had stayed there. Now the rate for Oct. is 60.00 for the same site much more for the preferred sites. Last year the bath houses were dirty and the AC did not work I hate getting out of the shower feeling like I need to get right back in. I don't think they will see me again.

This is pretty much the way we see it too. Huge price increase and very noticeable drop in standards compared to previous years. Same very visible dirt in the same locations in the bath houses the entire time we were there (in January and again in March last winter). Landscaping maintenance seemed to have ceased all together. There were (are?) other visible signs of lack of maintenance. Reminded me of Secret Lake, that used to be further west on US 192, just before it closed. Pretty iffy WIFI too. And the last couple of years, rather than just a reservation deposit, they want your entire stay fee in advance even if it's many many months ahead. It does have an excellent location though. Handy to everything. Oh well, at the rate the campsites are being replaced with cottages, it may all be academic before too long anyway.

Tropical Palms sites only have concrete pads in the front area. The back area has grass. While we were down there, we drove through Sherwood. We thought the atmosphere seemed a lot like Tropical Palms. I have to say though, at $99.00 a week that is a darn good price. I think the next time we head for Disney it will be on a plane. We have done that several times and stayed at a resort hotel.
Also, I would like to go at a cooler time of the year. Maybe when we retire .......

We had to stay at Sherwood Forest before because Tropical Palms was too crowded. They are owned by the same company I believe. We love TP...in fact...we are heading there this weekend. Ya cant beat it for in town camping, close to restuarants and old town. I have stayed in the cottages too..well worth the money.(if you get a newer one..older ones need remodeled/updated)

Just thought I would mention that I was at Fort Wilderness in December and our site wasn't nearly $85.
I was something like $45 for a regular site and $56 or $58 for a preferred site.

We where there over Christmas week of 2005 - we paid something like $100/$120 a night. Plus $50 a day rental for a golf cart. Since Disney does not allow you to use your car while staying at Ft. Wilderness we HAD to rent a golf cart because my 75 year mother was with us. No way could she walk to any of the bus/tram stops.

Now I can say - been there - done that and Never again. The place is nice, but NOT that nice and WAY OVERRATED!!!

Discounting the Disney Theme Parks, been to nicer campgrounds for a whole bunch less. ie TopSail or Bluewater Key for starters.

I know - a lot of folks will disagree with me, but JMHO...

You might try the Kissimee KOA. New campground, well located, very clean, spacious, but little or no trees or shade.

I was always the first to defend Tropical Palms as it was one of my favourite campgrounds. Truth is that the price has skyrocketed and standards have plummeted in huge proportions when it comes to maintenance and atmosphere.

Since they've constructed the cottages it has become way too overcrowded. The pool is way too small for the amount of people who come there. Standing room only in the pool. The washrooms that were overhauled near the pool is laughable.

Like I said, I'd still go there if I really couldn't go to Wilderness which is comparing apples and oranges. My brother is going to be staying at one of the cottages and asked if we'd RV there instead of FW. However, if you look on TP's website their supersites for March 09 are priced at $94.00 per night. Are they nuts? They would have to discount their sites at 60% off to bring it back to the price that it was 2 years ago when the park was much nicer.

I agree that they have priced themselves out of my market. I wanted to stay there on June 7th for the large car show at old town and it was way to high. I was able to get a room at the Days Inn for 1/2 the price. I know that the days inn does not compare to my camper, but I will save a lot in gas tooo. The only reason we stay close is so we can enjoy adult beverages and not have to drive.

Have a great time camping,
Terry

We looked at staying at TP during the first week of July while granddaughter was there for dance competition.

Their cancellation policy scared us away.
