Has anyone tried the new Fit as a Toad? The service manager at our Honda dealer says although it is not officially approved as tow, the tranny and differential is the same as a Civic and will be just fine. We have had tremondous success towing Honda in the past and the Fit looks like a dandy toad.

The Civic isn't approved either. Would he put in writing that the trans is still covered under warranty if you flat tow?

I spoke to the service mgr at our local Honda about towing the Fit and was told it could not be done - something about the electronic steering. One of us got misinformation and if it was me that's too bad because I really wanted the car!

Honda's CRV is the ONLY one that is approved for towing. Your salesman is blowing smoke!

And even the Element has the same underpinning as the CRV it is not approved for towing.
The reason: They did not feel a need to run through all the test as most people won't tow it so there was no reason to go through all the hoops. So I was told.

The ONLY Accura/Honda approved since 2005 is the CR-V and now the Fit
Sure you can go ahead and tow them, just be aware that Honda can and probably will VOID you warranty on the running gear and possibly engine since it's possible to harm it if the trans locks up. All of this came through many hours of negotiation with Honda's legal dept.

Spent 40 minutes at local Honda dealer to get the following question answered: "Since the Element is the exact same vehicle as the CRV except for the sheet metal is the Element Flat Towable for 2007?" No one at the dealership knew so thcy called Honda NA and got the answer "no absolutely not".
They did provide information for me from Honda NA that says the following 2005's are Flattowable: Civic, Accord, CRV, Element and Pilot". They pointed out that if I bought one of these as a certified Used model I could get an Honda Extended Warranty for 100,000 miles. (they just happened to have a 2005 Element with 21,000 miles on it).

I know an RVer that bought a 2007 Honda Pilot EXL four wheel drive and he towed it all the way from Washington to Palm Springs with no problems. He said Honda just forgot to show on the manual that it was towable. The dealer that sold it to him knew that they were towable.
I have a 2005 Honda Pilot EXL four wheel drive and it is great.

I just purchased a 2008 fit sport for $500. below MSRP. The owners manual clearly states that the car can be towed 4 wheels down behind a motorhome if procedures are followed.
