rvsolutions wrote: Has anyone tried the new Fit as a Toad? The service manager at our Honda dealer says although it is not officially approved as tow, the tranny and differential is the same as a Civic and will be just fine. We have had tremondous success towing Honda in the past and the Fit looks like a dandy toad. The service man is wrong, the Fit IS OFFICIALLY APPROVED by Honda. The Civic IS NOT.

Don't bother asking a salesman this question. Instead, ask to see the operator's manual and look for yourself.

Those who said the Fit IS towable 4 down are correct.
Read page 175 of the 2008 Fit Owners Manual titled "Towing Your Vehicle Behind a Motorhome". And as others have said, do NOT trust salesmen or even service managers for this information.
And the Civic is NOT approved.
The CRV is the only other Honda approved vehicle for towing 4 down.

This is the correct info for the 2008 Fit.
My mother bought one last week, and I have read the owner's manual. Was very happy to see that Honda allows them to be towed four-down. Very neat car, there may be one in our future.

Yes, the 2008 Honda Fit Automatic is towable according to pages 173/4 of the owners manual. Just bought a new 2008 Fit because of that but wanted to verify first in the owners manual.
There are steps to follow:
Start Engine.
Press brake pedal and run the shift thru all positions, then shift to "D" and hold for five (5) seconds.
Shift to "N" and run the engine for three (3) minutes and then turn engine off.
Release the brakes and put the ignition switch in accessory (I) so that the steering wheel is free to move and does not lock.
Make sure the radio is turned off and that nothing is plugged into power outlets.
Repeat above procedures every eight (8) hours of towing per day (at fuel stops, etc).
Still have to install baseplate and tow bar to motorhome, but looking forward to towing the 2550 pound Fit.
Have had the Fit Sport for a couple of months now. Getting between 31-32 mpg back and forth to work (42 miles each way from 100 ft elevation to 3800 ft elevation) hauling 2-3 other people in the carpool. Trip to Los Angeles (130 miles each way) gave me 37 mpg.
Handles nicely, very easy to maneuver in parking lots, with surprisingly pep. Traded in 2001 Corvette for it, can you believe that? But couldn't tow the Corvette. Actually like the Fit better, now that I have gotten used to it.

Well I've got the Roadmaster baseplate on my 2008 Honda Fit Sport with Foglights. Great installation instructions. Will be hooking up the Roadmaster Falcon 2 shortly.
Still have to order the electrical wiring and Roadmaster Even Brake.
So far so good....

We are also thinking about buying a Honda Fit for towing. Glad to know that they are approved.
