A couple of years ago I pulled in to one of the state truck scales, as I saw they were open, and no trucks. The authortative voice that boomed over the speaker asked me what I wanted (?), and i politely explained that I'd like to have the front & rear axles weighed. He did it and I thanked him.
On my way down to Florida in February, I again pulled in to an open and vacant state police scale in Virginia, and again, they complied. I thought that the worse could happen is he'd say no can do, and I motor on. I wouldn't have gone in if there was even one truck in there.

I use the dump. just ask about the best time and they are happy to help. they will do front, rear, left, right and each wheel. I give her a sheet of paper with each location on it, and all she has to do is jot down the numbers.

A'Weigh We Go who attends many motorhome events (i.e. FMCA Conventions) weighs all wheel positions and calibrates your tire pressure gauge. They use the same portable scales used by many highway patrol-- over $3500 each. As I recall it cost $25-30 dollars when we had it done. They not only weigh you, they have the tire charts from the tire manufacturers and can tell you the correct pressure and if you are overweight on any wheel position. WELL WORTH IT. I weighed at state truck scales in Missouri last week and pulled over to let a truck behind me get on scales. The scale operator met me with a print out of my weight as I was walking back to building. Very accomadating. I would pick a time when truck traffic is light. I had asked before pulling on the scale.
