RV.net has been gone completely for several hours.

But, Trailer Life worked well for me, all evening.

The formatting error are caused by your use of square brackets.

Square brackets are used by the forum's software to indicate a formatting option, such as, bold, color, etc. If you are using brackets for other purposes in your text, you must substitute other characters, perhaps parentheses. If you are using square brackets and typing your own format lines, then you should use the message window toolbar.

Tom,
I have been using RV.net as a portal ever since I joined open roads, but have taken your suggestion on using Trailer Life as a portal, and will be giving it a test run.
Will post back here in a few days with my results.

BTW, This post is through the TL portal.

One item I really liked was when I went to my forums; I wasn’t required to sign-in even though I was already logged-in. Still had to log-in for the sub-forums though.
Used TL several times since 6:30pm, no problems.

Logged on 3:52am cruised and posted the forum till 4:13am, from there I want to see if site will run-time error on me because of inactivity.
Came back at 5:10am, no problems picked up where I left off.
5:43am logged off

Logged-on 2:23pm, off at 2:45pm

Since I've been using the Trailer Life portal....things are pretty much back to normal except... for instance, if I try classifieds....then it switches to RV.net and comes to a screeching halt....usually followed by the computer sucking down huge amounts of bandwidth....and hogging the memory to the point that it's a real job to back your way out and retreat...

It does indeed go to classifieds /RV.net, had no problems

I haven't been able to view the ad I placed, since it was put in there, let alone get into it and see how it's doing....for hits and the like.
I can tell you this for sure....it's completely inaccessible to anyone using dial-up.
I am using Verizon DSL

Tried to log-on TL, and then RV, at:
7:30pm to 7:38pm no luck. Server not found.
7:50pm to 7:55pm no luck. Server not found.
8:10pm to 8:14pm no luck. Server not found.

Went to work; at 10:23pm, tried TL no luck. Server not found.
11:10pm no luck. Server not found.

At work 12:50am Logged-on to TL
At home 04:53am Logged-on to TL

Why do you log in?

I don't log out unless I'm on a public computer.

On my last day at work, April 30, I will log out of everything from that computer, even if I haven't been in for awhile on that machine.

The point is, if the computer you use isn't a share computer, I can't see the reason to log out between visits to the site. & I seem to have fewer problems with site access than many who are posting about it.

& I, I took the road less travelled by.

Little Kopit:
For lack of a better term I used, Logged-in/on.
Would try, tried, or trying be better?
I'd be with whatever term you or others could come up with.

I follow the same procedure you do on my home box, but when at work, I will not log-in, out of respect for my companies PC usage policies.
I only check certain sites to update myself while at work. I do notice my on-line icon is not lit when I do check from work.

The point of my exercise is to see how much of difference there is between portals, i.e. TL and RV and to help Pulsar-Tom in understanding what is going on, through the use of constructive not destructive observation, although, he probably already knows...

One question to ask would be; Why is there such poor communication between Off-Roads admin's and Mod's, and the server Administration!?!?
With other forums the Admin will warn of service-down times for upgrades and maintenance to the system. Tom's reply to my observation post system down for four hours no reason given.

I have my other box running Seti/Bonic, their Admin gives plenty of warn-time for upgrades/maintenance. If something does crop up they explain to everyone on the web site what/how serious the problem is, and when to expect to return; It is only common courtesy!

Is the practice of not logging out harmful to the hundred's of thousands of other members chances of logging-in?
I know it is convenient, but if the server/'s which have limitations, sees you as logged in, would it not deny other attempts as an act of self-preservation?

Earlier I stated"I do notice my on-line icon is not lit when I do check from work.", but...Am I really logged off?
Remember, I am as guilty of this as any member that practices this.

I have also found from other forums that, distance to and location of the server from your base, can be a concern.

Is the practice of using Wi-Fi, Cellular, and the like harmful to server performance?... Can you hear me now?

Well, I have to get ready for work 9pm to 5am I know, I work for the local morning paper.
Sometimes I sleep right after work
Sometimes a few hours later
Sometimes not at all

Steve

I don't think this was a planned outage. When their is a planned down time, you will at least get a notice that the forum is unavailable because of maintenance.

Good morning Everyone!, I'm back from work..

Tom is this notice passed on to everyone? I have never seen one (a notice)
Where are they posted? On the TL or RV home site?
