I thought I would let those who might be interested, that Southern Cross is currently hiring gas line testing technicians. Last word was they need 20-30 people right now.

I have contact info for anyone who might be intrested in this type of job. The pay is pretty good, you can work as much or as little of the year as you want, and they have jobs all over the US. They pay a base pay + per deim + vehicle allowance (if you use your own vehicle on the job) + per mile travel allowance when you travel from one job location to another. They also offer benefits, such as health insurance, 401K, etc.

This is a full time, 40 hour a week job when you are at your work location. You need to be able to walk 2-5 miles a day and be flexible with your schedule.

Although we are only in our late 40's, they have many workamper employees, with ages ranging all the way up to people in their 70's.

We have been working for them for about 6 months now and really like it.

I just thought I'd let everyone know that they are really looking to hire people right now.

As per the posting guide lines on this forum, anyone interested, email me and I will give you the number to the person you need to call to talk to and try to answer any further questions you might have.

If anyone gets hired on, please tell them I referred you.

Monte...

Yes, that is what we have expereinced also so far

We be travelin' fools. Sold our business and "retired" last August. But since we are still youngun's, (only 48) we decided to go back to work, only this time we are rolling on down the road to get there.

We have loved RVing for so long, it's nice to be able to combine the travel with making some pocket money and seeing new places every so often.

Also, for us, one of the pluses about doing the job we do for SCC is, we get lots of excersize. Which we both really need so we would turn into couch potatoes

Yes, we both work for them.

The only thing that is sort of a pain is having to drive 2 vehicles to every job site. One of us drives the RV, towing the Jeep and the other follows along behind driving the Honda. Haven't figured out a way to legally tow both cars behind the RV yet. Don't expect I will.

Having to be in separate vehicles when traveling makes us have to take more breaks that we normally would. But I guess that's not a bad thing for us to do anyway.

We did find a company that makes a special double car carrier trailer where we could carry both cars behind the RV, but the price was $17,500 for it. A little out of our price range to say the least. It would be perfect though if we could afford it.

Maybe we'll cross paths someday.

Hi My first post on this forum.

This sounds interesting for possible future employment

I'm somewhat young yet 40's and very likely face

a layoff situation, I'm currently a space shuttle

launch pad technician, with the end of the program

rapidly approaching I'm certainly job hunting.

janree- thanks for the heads up on this opportunity!

my question is why do you need two vehicles?

is it required to use scc survey vehicle,

would it be practical to use vehicle allowance.

I ask this because being single limits my

travel to 1 tow vehicle.

Thanks Richard

Thanks for the tip! I have sent you a regular e-mail but have questions for everyone who has served in this capacity. How much down time is there? Guarding gates for the petro industry seemed to pay well but one could lay to for 2 to 4 months while the next job came up. Is this similar? What is the pay anyway?
