With the Yukon with the 5.3L towing a Jayflight BH, should I tow in towhaul and in 3rd gear or towhaul in drive? Seems like an awful lot of shifting in drive but occasionally I hit the right grade and the vehicle will stay in overdrive for a few miles.

Leave it in 3rd...no difference in gas milage but a lot easier on the transmission. I have a similiar tow vehicle...5.3, 3.73 Silverado towing #7000 travel trailer.

Stay in 3rd with tow/haul mode on. That "awful lot of shifting" you mentioned will put a load of stress on your torque converter and heat up your tranny very quickly.

When we were using a Suburban with your setup I towed in 3rd all the time with the tow/haul mode on. Main difference with tow haul is it changes the shift points of the transmission so once you are up and running it make no difference.

You do not want your transmission "hunting " for gears which it will do quite often if you drive in OD.
