It is the owners choice as no " REAL" benefit either way. I have been plugging mine into the receiver outlet for years and absolutely no problems, is easy to connect as I lift the tailgate. No way does it damage the cord and no corrosion from road trash either as we travel south in the winter .I see no need to spend the money,make a large hole in my bed,and have something else in the way if I use my truck as a truck.IMHO

I can always bet I'll see a cord hanging over a guys tailgate when I see a ladder and a big blue tote strapped to the back of a guys 5ver. I personally like to keep my stuff tucked in, the only reason I see not to do it is being lazy and cheap

I would think being anal and retentive would be the guy that DOES NOT want to drill THAT UNECESSARY HOLE in his bed.If you were to look you are out numbered probably ten to one in the bed versus the bumper plug, which still means nothing other then maybe a cleaner look, and then who cares, you want to flop your cord over your tailgate your choice. Correct me if I am wrong ,but don't you have to use a extension to reach under the bumper, when going OVER the tailgate. If so one more connection one more potential failure ??
Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't all 5ver cords long enough from the factory to reach the factory under bumper socket? Every model we looked at( and that seems like thousands) had the cord long enough to plug-in under the bumper
Way back in 02 when I ordered my Duramax with trailer tow package, they included a long pig-tail for an in-bed plug, it was already wired in to the existing harness with the ends stubbed covered with glue impregnated heat shrink-wrap and it was coiled up and tie-wrapped to the front lower driver's side underside of the pick-up box. I would be very surprised if all of the domestic makers don't include this provided wire harness if tow package is ordered. I ran that wire between the inner and outer fender up into the middle stake pocket and did not even have to drill a hole except for a couple of small ones to hang the receptacle bracket from. Mounting it up high to the underside lip of the bed will keep******out of it and make it really easy to hook and unhook as it's in the same neighbourhood as your fifth wheel latching arm.

No you do not need an extention to reach on most fivers!! But if everyone here wants to jump off the roof of a ten story building Please be my guest but I am not comming with you. Thus my reasoning for no in bed mounted plug is valid for me> Me no Jumpee on this band wagon or offa this building! JMVO
