Just back from our first outing in the new 5er and it was great but I have one problem. I am having a hard time finding an adaptor to put a trailer plug socket in my bed. I am running the trailer cord under the tailgate to the factory hitch socket and it works but not the best way to do it. My question is does everyone cut into their existing wiring harness or does someone make a T I can put inline so I can add a socket in the bed? I need both because I pull my boat as much as the camper.

Just did the job. Bought a receptacle, drilled a hole and ran the wires down to near the existing factory plug. Since the color codes were different it took me a couple of hours to figure out what was what. After that it was simply a matter of splicing in the wires to the new receptacle. Oh and I put mine about half way between the tail gate and fender well. Worked for me.

Look for a factory coiled harness on frame rail at front of bed. Many newer trucks come with the harness, just need to add connector in bed.

Take it to a good RV dealer and let them install a plug for you. Money well spent. Happy Camping!!!

E-Trailer sells a plug in connector with or without the end you mount in the bed. Doesn't require you to cut any wires simply plugs in between the exisiting connection.

the same dealer who installed my pullrite superglide hitch install the outlet in my truck bed. Money well spent at Stone's Camping World, Rte 73, Winslow Twp, NJ. The dealer was so great to work with that I had to give them a plug.

I don't know what kind of truck you have but (I think this is what you're looking for), here is one for a Ford or GM and here is one for a Dodge.

They let you keep your existing plug (near the bumper) and install another plug in the box without cutting any wires.

EDIT: I see you have a Ford, but I will leave both links for anyone with other brands.

When my grown kids were inspecting our new fifth wheel, one asked why we bought a trailer that sleeps 4. My reply was that we couldn't find one that sleeps 2!

E-Trailer and Reese has adapters. I got mine from Reese, give them a try if you haven't already.

I just put one in the bed of my F350. Bought it from ETrailer.com. I think it was 55 dollars including shipping. Took about 1 hr or so to install. No wires to cut and the factory plug still operable.
