Exactly, it's not as if they're offering a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty.

My local dealer was willing to meet the internet wholesaler's pricing plus $500. I was very happy to hear this and have no problem paying an extra $500 to support a local business. It would have either cost me $455 shipping fee or a 240 mile trip at an average of 10 mpg anyhow. That's a win win situation for both parties involved. They get the business and still make a small profit while I get my trailer from a local dealer and have the peace of mind knowing I bought it local and can get warranty work done easily if need be.

If my local dealer here in PA can do it, they all can. They just CHOOSE not to, it's called greed.

Things are a little different in Canada, we can still by from your wholesalers but the cost adds up.
As a small business person I would rather make a little on a sale than nothing as my monthly output is still the same.
When we were looking for our trailer we to went to the local dealer he would not budge on his price knowing that if we wanted this same model we would have to drive 6 hours round trip. Well I found that dealer willing to sell us the same trailer for 7000. less than the local guy!!
When we needed warranty work done we take it to the local guy who services it and really doesn't make a dime....
A little $ or a lot$$

At least part of the problem is the transitioning that is currently taking place between an Internet world and a non-Internet world. Historically, the M.O. in Sales has been to "wheel and deal" with every potential customer with a goal of "removing" as much money as possible from his pocketbook. Since human beings are at varying intellectual, educational, and "ability to haggle" levels, and since they usually didn't have access to information other than what the salesman told them, the net result was that 100 different people would most likely pay 100 different prices for the exact same item, with at least some of them paying a lot more than what the product was actually worth.

In a non-Internet world, this type of Sales M.O. worked pretty good (at least for the salesmen). It will not work in the Internet world, however. As the Internet continues to become more and more ubiquitous, historical Sales M.O.'s are going to have to change by default. The places where they do change will survive; the places where they don't, won't.
