I have been looking for a way to be notified if the inside temp of the motorhome goes up while we are away. We leave our dogs in the coach at football games with the genset running and always worry about it quitting. All the monitors I have found want a telelphone line to call you on. I found this one that is a USB solution for about $130. Plug your laptop into a inverter powered outlet and it will email your PDA-cellphone (which we have) when the temp goes over a programmable limit. Here is the link. LINK

Its a great idea, but it seems expensive. I googled this real quick- seems like it could work, but may take some trial and error. I wouldnt mess with it when the doggies are on the line, but if you have time to play with it, who knows? Software is $39, sensor is $27 ( seems expensive for a thermister and cable though).

$130 the engineering work has already been done !
how much do you value the life of your pets ?
how much to you trust the park 120v power on a 100 degree day, enough to be gone for several hours to be shopping, getting the car repaired ? to the movies ?
this lets you know, if the power fails and the temps go up inside the RV
this subject has come each summer, i believe there is hardware version that plugs directly into a cell phone, then calls what ever number is programed if the 120v power fails
so you know and can come back ,before the increased heat sets off a temperature alarm

Actually $130, plus buy an inverter, plus buy a laptop, so more like $1000 I would guess. I have a cellphone, but not a PDA.
If someone knows of a REASONABLE price, I'm interested, but I think the above unit is way too expensive.

Here is a page that I have favorited...........they have the model number.......SM-VM-500-3 for $232.00 http://www.safehomeproducts.com/SHP2/SM/HOME_GUARD.ASP
Not sure but, it may need to be powered by an inverter since it runs on 120vac..........a computer is not needed.......but, a second cell phone is......

Above link looked real good until I read "Cell phone interface: Cell phone must interface with an analog adapter (same as interfaces with fax machine or computer). Figure on $700 plus." Oh well.

Why not look at one made for RV's? This One runs off 12 volts, and just needs a cell phone. Also need a cell phone to answer I guess. Only about $500 (plus two cell phones).

What about an auto sensor that will cause your house batteries to run all of the fans in the coach? Not sure this would work, but it might. I too wonder about a way to notify me when and if the temp rises for my two Dachs.
