We're going to visit our son who is stationed at Fort Polk in Lousiana. Looking at an atlas I noticed we could travel the Natchez Parkway for the whole length and its actually a quite direct route for coming from Cleveland,OH. We will traveling in a class A motorhome. Wondering what the road conditions are like, are there lots of stops, is it going to cost us a lot of time vs. traveling interstates? The government website mentions the speed limit is 50 mph and there are several primitive campgrounds along the route.

Almost no stops. Three free campgrounds without hookups. Gas at only a couple of spots on the trace but plenty just off. State and RV parks close by. It's a great ride. Normally not a lot of traffic and no big trucks.

Very nice drive -- the speed limit is 50mph -- not commercial -- very similar to the Blue Ridge Parkway. There are a couple of campgrounds on the Trace but there are also some nice parks just off the Trace.
We drove it last April -- really enjoyed it.

I would suggest going S. on I65 for about 25 miles South of Nashville. The first few miles of the Natchez is very winding. The remainder of the parkway is GREAT!!!

It's a very nice, scenic ride. Allow some extra time to stop at historic sites along the way. There are several Miss. state parks not far from the Trace, all nice.

And watch for the animals - we had one of the small deer commit suicide against the passenger corner of our rig last spring. Literally jumped in front of us as we got beside him!! Still bothers us.

Really a neat road---we have stayed at Davis Lake, a NFS campground some 4-5 miles off the Trace, and Tisamingo State Park, and Grand Gulch, a military battlefield campground. All having at least electric hookups.
Do watch your speed. I nearly got a ticket the last trip.

We took the Trace from Nashville all the way. Great ride, no traffic and stayed in the primitive campgrounds. Really enjoyed it. We must have stopped at every pull out, that described the area. Did stay at 1 private campground in Tupelo, just off the Trace. Nice park. Stayed a few days to explore.
Would recommend doing the trace. We have a class A.
Oh! yes watch out for the animals and not just deer, turkeys too!

Another scenic drive (since you are traveling north to south) is the Land Between the Lakes (between KY Lake and Cumberland) if you have the time.
