No! I have had 3 different Silverado short beds and 4 different fivers - all with extended pin box - since 1995 and have NEVER had a sliding hitch. Just whave been careful and learned how to back! I note that quite a few people that have them claim to have never used it! "Nuf said??

We have the Superglide as well. I talked with many people before deciding what to do. All the ones I know with the standard bed 2500 also went with it. Being new to all this, I didn't want to add to my stress level while backing up. I'm glad I did, because when I get the 5er from storage and back it in my drive way, I put the tv and rig at a 90 degree angle because the street is narrow.
When/if you get one, I found the best price at PPL. They have a web site you can look through. Good Luck.

Just Dave . The Pullrite prevents me from hitting the cab. I've been in a 90+ situation in the campground and it wasn't even close.

captain037 wrote: I am just the opposite. We live on a dead end street with the driveway at the wrong angle to back into if I drive up to the house. I have gotten it in without sliding my hitch but it is way easier using the slide. The only other option would be to back up the street and right in. It's an option but not real practical. Do you have to have it? Probably not but I sure use mine. Oh yea, if you don't install a slider and need to get in a tight place, don't hesitate to have a spotter watch your cab clearance.
I'm like you. I don't have a lot of room to back our 5vr into our driveway, and I need to extend my hitch slide. I've already blown out one back window on the TV. Also with the hitch slide extended, you not only get more clearance between the TV and the 5vr, but the kingpin pivot centre is behind the rear axle, which will give you a bit of leverage for turning when backing up.

I have a 2500 HD S/B I installed the B&W Gooseneck. It pairs up with the Companion 18K 5th wheel Hitch. Do to the offset I do not need a Slider. You do NOT have to have a slider just be carefull and like said, maybe have a spotter
