Weighted certified Interstate scale today with my 185 lb lard butt off the scale;
3/4 tank of gas front 3580 lbs rear 2580 lbs total 6160 lbs.
Manual and side plate show Max trailer weight at 12,000 lbs and GCWR at 22,000 lbs.
In the process of getting a 96 Cardinal 35 ft. with 3 slides, washer/dryer combo. Trailer plate shows GVRW at 12,000 lbs and GAWR at 6,000 lbs but have not gotten a certified weight yet as have no way to move it at this time.
My question, Is the Cardinal too much for my Chebby to tow safely? Myself, I have driven, ridden and been certified with endorcements to drive most everything that moves.
I gotta do this, cows were real hungry, drought here in GA, needed some hay real bad, so the truck had to earn its keep. 8 hour round trip pulling 14 round bales on 27' 10 ton trailer. Used Flying J scales.
Granted I was over the limit (well…OK, way over) but you know these farmers do this all the time all across the great USA.
After pulling this I believe the new Legends 37QB4S-H5 that we are getting will be no problem.
Be careful out there, Bobby

I had the opportunity to weigh my rig over the holidays. We were fully loaded with more stuff than we needed for our 5 night stay at Ocean Lakes CG. The 5er had 1/3 tank of fresh water, all other tanks were empty. The truck had a full tank of fuel, DW,DD, and Mr.Wiggles (DD's weenie dog). I weighed the entire rig first.
2007 Chevrolet 2500 HD (New Body), Duramax/Allison, Crew Cab, Short Bed, 4x4, Z71, Fuel Tank/ToolBox Combo.
Plus driver @220 and Dog @ 30 plus 30lbs. of stuff. Total fuel on 47 gallons.
First off let me apologize for being so confused here. The more I read about this the more my head spins. I am new at this so please bear with me. Yesterday at an RV show a salesman told me that the 16,000 lb fifth wheel he was selling could be towed by almost any 3/4 ton truck. His reasoning was that because the tongue weight (if that's the proper term) resting in the bed of the truck was almost 3000 lbs. He said that to calculate how much you are towing, you deduct that 3000 lbs and the "towing" weight is only 13000 lbs. I always assumed that the towing weight was the actual weight of the trailer. Is this guy right or is he blowing smoke?
we had a thread about that not tooo long ago. It acame to be that it is a matter of opinion, but as long as you are under GCVW, axle and tire ratings and you are comfortable with the set upthen OK. The way the weight police look at you is combined so on a scale you look like a 10k truck towing a 13k trailer but I don't know of 3/4 tons rated for 23k GCVW.
now, this morning I went and weighed my new setup,
1999 f350 2wd dually v-10 long bed 4dr auto
- truck with full fuel 5er hitch, firewood and 100lb tools........6780
- front axle......................................................3960
- rear axle.......................................................2820
- rear with pin wt................................................5500
and the trailer 2007 cardinal 362bh w/half bath, all pots, pans, linens, all gear but no food of clothing and "simulated half tank h2o"
now butchb, am i a 9460lb truck towing a 10640lb trailer or am I a 6720Lb truck towing a 13320lb trailer?
because either is true but I have had many tell me that i'm a 9460lb truck towing a 13320lb trailer which ads pi wt twice???? that I don't believe.
Yes, it is VERY open for interpretation !!!
Also we are 57'9" long
