Factoring in rest stops, gas & meals we plan on averaging 40 miles driven for every hour of time. 10 hours = 400 miles. We usually come out pretty close to this.

If you want to enjoy rving do three things: 1. Drive no further than about 350 miles a day. 2. Drive no faster than 65 mph. 3. Do everything in the day light hours. I read that some where I forgot where.

Oh, heck, just have fun and go where you want to go. We have had 14 hours driving days (yes, more than once) and it's just fine. We were in a hurry to get to our destination, and it was totally worth the drive. Plan your fun and have a great time!

On our first long trip with our TT we has several long days (400 miles). When we got back home, we needed a vacation from the vacation.
Now it's 200-300 or even less.. Enjoy the ride!!
Of course we are driving through some pretty scenic places most of the time.

This is good advice. I might add that on the first day limit your mileage to 300 miles. I suggest this since the first day on the road you are securing the house, checking this and that on the RV/TT....things that make the first day a tad longer than a normal travel day.

I agree with these rules, but must admit I break the quoted one. When we go on a longer trip, we try to get away from the Atlanta area before the traffic nightmare becomes too bad. That means we usually leave around 5:30 AM. It's still dark, but it sure makes the trip through Atlanta easier and quicker.
Even with the early start, 350 miles a day is a good relaxed pace. If we "absolutely, positively had to be there overnight", we'd fly. We don't go places to come back more exhausted than we were when we left, at least not from the traveling part of the trip.

Traveling 10 hours in a day isn't that bad. Doing it all in one day will make it feasable to enjoy your destination one more day.
But remember if offered the sleeping pill take it. I wish I could take on but I am the only one that can drive.

I happen to disagree to an extent. If time at your destination is your goal then do the long day of driving. When we go from Ga to Maine we go from Macon to Chambersburg, Pa. in one day so we can spend more time there before heading on down the road. Do what ever works for your schedule. If you get tired stop and rest,if you don't get tired drive on through.
As far as the anxiety goes. I learned a long time ago when I traveled with my job to plan the best I could and after that there was always, Wal-mart or K-mart. Your never in complete control of your surroundings, not even at home, so go have a good time and enjoy yourself.

I plan on 550-600 mile days, with a plan B in place if I get tired.
