Well it's that time of year again where we get to head out to the ole cider mills. We usually go to several but our favorite is the Franklin Cider Mill in Franklin, MI. It was built as a grist mill in 1873.

So does anyone out there go to any cider mills. I expect that the New England area has them and maybe Washington state but how about the other areas. Are there any unusual mills in your area. Inquiring minds want to know. At least I do...hehehe.

We are presently near Ottawa, Canada on our way to Stowe, Vermont where we will hook up with a 30-day RV caravan through New England. I was just reviewing the itinerary and see that we will be visiting the Cold Hollow Cider Mill near Stowe. It will be another "first" for us.

We have done quite a bit of camping and traveling in the Wenatchee,USA area, which is the centre of the apple growing area. I have never seen a 'cider mill' but maybe I don't know what they look like. Most of the many fruit stands in the area will sell 'apple cider' but it's always the non alcoholic variety, which I had never seen or even heard of until we started going there.
I'd be interested to know if they are there in that region.

I've never been to a cider mill. Have been to an orchard that sells their apples and apple juice but the juice was already in jugs. I'll have to look for one.

So far I've only seen grain grist mills.

Oh wow! That brings back so many memories. I grew up in MI and going to the Franklin Cider Mill was the highlight of our fall. Icy cold fresh cider and warm cake donuts. Mom and Dad always bought at least two or three bushels of apples - different kinds - so we would have them to eat through the next months and lots to freeze and can for pies and apple sauce and apple butter. We had a root cellar in our home so the apples stayed crunchy for an amazing amount of time. When they started to get soft - we could count on the warm apple sauce simmering on the stove.

Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

Gosh, we used to go to the Franklin CM as kids, long long ago. I was quite young so I don't remember much, but I remember the cold cider and warm donuts. How cool that you would share this with us. Thanks so much, and I'm passing on that link to my sisters. They'll get a kick out of that.

Around here we have the Julian Apple Festival (mountains east of SanDiego). Pies, apples, cider, and all things related to apples. I plan on going and picking up a jug of cider, and a pie. But I sure would love to visit the Franklin Cider Mill again.

May we all have safe travels.

Nope, ever see any little eyeballs starring back at you as you a scrutinize the contents of the apple juice jug?
