I've been looking behind small (15")LCDs checking for "bricks", in order to find a TV I can hook directly to 12v. The security folks at Best Buy, Wal Mart, etc. are starting to follow me around. What are some brands/models folks have used? I understand some LCDs run off 12vdc, but don't have bricks - I would think the heat would be an issue, but whatever works. Did a search, no joy.

Look at the Polaroid brand LCD/TV. The ones I've looked at don't have a brick, but do have an inconspicuous 12 volt port next to the A/V ports.

I second that - I have a Polaroid 15" LCD TV that has the 12VDC connector. But it runs off a regular AC cord when in the house, so you wouldn't know it was 12VDC-capable just by looking at the cord.

Check the Audiovox brand also. Got a 15" with DVD player that runs off 120vac or a 12vdc brick(plugs into cigarette lighter socket and converts to 8.5-9vdc required by TV input).

I too have a 15" LCD Polaroid TV. I bought this model because it runs off a 12vdc brick and has a standard 12vdc jack on it. I use it in the house with the 12volt brick and just un-plug it for travel use in the RV. In the RV I've got a standard 12vdc cable ready for the TV. BTW, you can get quick disconnects for the coax connections too at Radio Shack or Wally World.
The only complaint I have about the Polaroid TV is that my universal remote doesn't have a code for it. Its a few years old now. Maybe the new ones do.

I am looking for one of these also...Where do I find it? Is it a DVD/TV combo? That's what I want.

I bought mine last December and my DirecTV and now Dish universal remotes both work fine with it, so I guess they got that resolved.

Last week I was in a Circuit City out here in Calif. They had the Polaroid 15" LCD with DVD. Didn't check the back of the unit for 12vdc operation though.

We bought a 15" LCD from Best Buy several months ago. It works great plus the picture quality is so much better than our old picture tube TV. It's an Insignia. It came with a brick and a 110 volt plug but we eliminated the brick and direct wired it into the 12 volt system. The voltage that the television uses should be on the brick or the back of the TV. Make sure that it's 12 volt because they can range up to 19 volts.

Very few TVs use bricks anymore so this trick is getting harder to do.
