I noticed many of the LCDs I looked at don't have bricks. I have a Phillips 20" that has a 110/24v brick, but seems inefficient to run a transformer to jack 12v up to 24v. We just need a simple little LCD for the bedroom so Beloved Spouse can watch TV while we dry camp. Then, maybe I can convince her its time to spring for solar.

The ones with 12v bricks or 12volt jacks are only on the smaller size lcd's 15"-20" and are getting hard to find, add to that you will want one with speakers at the bottom or back otherwise they get to wide to fit also a small bezel will allow you to use a bigger size screen, Wal mart had a 17" taitung 3x4 aspect ratio set thin bezel and had the bottom speakers and ran on 12 volt, I got one and it fit perfectly to replace one of my sets (pix is just fair), went to order another one for the back TV and found out they sold them out, found a used toshibia 17" wide screen with DVD and speakers at bottom and 12 volt brick that fit the rear (great pix) what I found in a lot of looking is almost all the new sets have built in power supplies-no brick or 12 volt jack, only the off brand sets have them- polaroid, taitung, niko and a host of other no names on e bay with questionable panels, another option is to use a lcd computer monitor and one of the stand alone TV tuners, there is a good one out there with a digital tuner and remote for around $150, this arrangement would have to run on the inverter and the pix may not be as good unless the tuner outputs at the lcd panel native resolution, and unless the monitor has a remote, you will either have to let it go to sleep (very small current draw) or get up and turn it off, and the last possibility is one of the samsung multi purpose monitor-tv's, which is what the taitung was, those too you would have to buy used since they don't make them anymore, and dell made a model or two of the multi monitors

I bought a 10 inch LCD about 4 years ago and it has the brick. I made sure when I bought it that the brick did indeed change 110 to 12 volts so I was able to just purchase a power cord (generic) from Radio Shack and plug it directly into the cig lighter. Has worked for me.

I have a 20" GoVideo that is 12v native, as well as a Polaroid 10" under-cabinet with DVD player that also runs on 12 volts.

I use the included power brick with the GoVideo while on shore power, or connect directly to 12 volts when not. It uses an odd power connector (looks like an S-Video connector but fatter pins) so what I did was cut the cable from the power brick and put a lighter plug on the half that went to the set, and a lighter socket on the half coming out of the brick.

The Polaroid uses a fairly standard DC connector, so a generic lighter cord worked fine for it. I have no power brick for it (it was supposed to have one, but I got it for a great clearance price as it was missing the brick) so it always runs on 12 volts.

If the gods had meant for humans to roam about the earth without clothing, one should think we would have been born that way.
