Progresso is the best place to go in Mexico. It is safe, easily accessible - you pay $1.50 to park on the US side and walk across the bridge. It is very colorful, margarittas are cheap and there is lots of trinkets and trash. It is busy and you just push along the streets with the crowd and try to take in all the sights. It is best not to go if it has been dry (dusty) for a long time and then it rains. All that dust turns to gravy on the road and it is slippery and can be difficult to cross the streets. I always avoid wearing sandals when we go.

The Canada Store has a special, I think on Thursdays (but not positive) and you buy a ticket for about $4 and all the margarittas or daiquiri are free from 4 to 6 pm. They also have a floor show that lasts about half an hour and there is a band and dance floor. It is a fun time but I know from experience that the drinks are not watered down! ! ! Look for a poster in their window giving details.

Just a reminder to everyone...
Don't forget to get your Passport so you can enjoy those cheap margaritas in Progresso Mexico.

Nuevo Progresso is south of Weslaco just across the border. It is safe, easily accessible and very tourist friendly. Matamoros to the east and Reynosa to the west are not good places to visit.

We have made the big plunge and just purchased our first RV, a fifth wheel. We are planning a trip to Rio Grande Valley in Feb. Have any of you stayed in La Freia, TX? We are looking forward to the trip and hope to meet lots of RVers. Sharonlee

Welcome to the Valley
La Feria is a small town in the eastern Valley, population about 7000, many more in the Winter, The closest city of size is Harlingen, it is about 9 miles east. I am more familiar with the western Valley. What RV park will you be at???

Spelling of La Feria corrected

Yes, we have stayed in La Feria. In 2004 after my Mother passed away we went down for maybe 3 weeks in February. We stayed at what could be the tiniest Park in the Valley. No office, no pool, no laundry, just a place to park with full hookups. We had friends staying there and we had a good time. Also, my new beautician I found last winter is in La Feria. I think the new Outlet Mall is in La Feria if not it is very close.

Shirley...... The new outlet mall is actually in Mercedes.

Sharonlee.......... The name of the town in question is as Shirley has spelled it. La Feria is pronounced La [like the misical note] Fer [as in Ferry] e [like the letter] ah [the sound you make after the first sip of a cold one on a hot day].
