Force won the race with a 4.863 at 315.34 mph to Bernstein's 4.904 at 312.06 mph and then they got together just after they crossed the finish line. Kenny took out the top end lights and it looked like a large orange colored part of that hit Force's car and might have caused the drivetrain failure.

I was just 2 doors down from their shop yesterday in Brownsburg, IN. I almost stopped by when I saw one of the garage bay doors open, but I didn't have time. I hope I get up that way again.

Force is a genuine nice guy who is enthusiastic about his sport. He is a self made person who came from very humble beginnings.

I have a lot of respect for this man who would give you the shirt off his back

Many years ago when my son was young enough to not be embarased to go out in public with mom and dad, we attended the finals in Pomona.

After the race, we went down on the starting line to watch the awards ceremony. From behind me, I heard a familiar voice say "looks like you got a tired one on your hands". It was John addressing me and my son. I think I was more excited to meet and talk with John than my son was.

Update: 6:20 p.m. Sunday: Doctors updated John Force's family and team following a thorough evaluation of his multiple injuries and the prognosis for a full recovery is very good.

Force sustained a broken left ankle and severe abrasion on his right knee. Force's left wrist also was dislocated and broken and he sustained some severe abrasions and slight fractures on a number of fingers on his right hand.

Throughout all procedures Force was alert and responsive. CAT scans performed came back negative and showed no damage other than the injuries to his legs and hands. Surgeons will begin cleaning a number of his injuries tonight and possibly setting his fractures if the swelling is at an acceptable level.

BTW Force moved up to 4th in points and has a week and a half off to get back in shape.

Bernstein caused the accident!

In reviewing all the footage avail on ESPN2 it is obvious that Kenny crossed the centerline and kicked cones and/or lights into Force causing the right rear tire to blow in the same moments that John pulled the chutes. The load on the chassis with the blown rear tire and the left side still driving altho momentarily caused the chassis to snap when the chutes deployed. The aftermath was the front of John's chassis crashing in Kenny's car.

Just watched it on tv myself. Good to see that Force was flapping his lips as usual even while they were loading him into the helicopter - wanting to know who won etc. A very good sign.

I'm sure he is already scheming on how to put hand-controls in the cockpit so he can still drive with broken legs.

Besides a monthly Wednesday cruise put on by various clubs at the
Force Shop, Force sponsors an annual Toys for Tots Street Rod event
along with the CHP and AAA. [Orange Co., CA]
Although nobody checks, "admission" for spectators is a new unwrapped toy.

The shop is open for visitors, which includes his extensive collection
of things "other than" racing memorabilia. [Like Elvis "stuff"].
Usually John and family - and other team members - are available for autographs. [long line!].

As "we" all know - he seems to be going 300mph even when NOT in his
funny car. To that end, one year I happened to be by the side entrance
of the building when he arrived prior to trophy presentation.

A TV crew was filming him - with the camera man "walking" backward in
front of John. Well, Mr. camera guy almost went on his butt - couldn't
keep up. [John wasn't slowing down to accommodate him!].

Force likes to call his funny car his "hot rod" - but (unfortunatley)
as Gary Baskerville liked to say: NHRA means "No Hot Rods Anymore".
Mega bucks & mega-buck racing teams.

We'll be keeping him in our prayers, he is going to be in a lot of pain with all those injuries. Sure glad to hear he will recover. We like him!! He does have a high level of energy! That makes it fun to watch him talk, he get's so excited!

If you look at the video in super slow motion it was the second orange object that shot out that traveled at a much faster speed and passed the first orange cone. It then hit Force's car and that is when the tire blew.

Frame one it shows it closest to the center line.

Frame two now shows it passed the first cone that was hit and almost at Force's car.

Frame three shows that the slower first cone still did not reach Force's car and it's now showing the start of damage from the faster second orange cone that already hit it.
