Have a question about caulking around windows. DH wants to remove the excess sealant (black) that is showing around the windows and then use clear caulking around them. Is this a good or bad idea? His reasoning is that when we wash the trailer, it would eliminate some of the black streaking...thinks this black sealant might be one of the culprits. I'm of the opinion that "if it's not broke, don't fix it". Interested in any feedback. Thanks

So let me see....you want someone on this fine forum to jump right in with their opinion of whether or not to clean and re-caulk. Obviously that opinion would immediatly result in choosing sides between you and your DH!!! I think the lack of responses already is indicative of the level of perception and intelligence of the forum members. I also will take a pass, but thought you at least deserve a response on why...Sorry...Brian...

I have a solid answer that shows no prejudice - Don't use silicone.

Another unbiased opinion:
The excess caulk is from the installation of the window into the wall.
This is only excess and will not undermine the seal between the window and wall.
I removed all of my excess caulk w/ plastic putty knife and buffed w/ spray gel gloss cleaner/wax.
Have received comments on the sleek look.
Best of luck.

Thanks for the replies....never intended for this to be a "he said, she said" thing!! LOL Just looking for some advice. Thanks, Keith. I think that was DH's thoughts. He's adventerous...I'm "black & white", show me first!! I'll pass on the information to him. Hey, we've been married for 45 years...a little thing like window caulking isn't going to change that!! LOL

I have done the same thing keithanddena have done....Looks real nice. I used a plastic Plastic Razor Blade. Yes they exists. Like already stated,d ont use and silicone. It attracts dirt worse than a 5 year old can!
