I've been wanting to get our new rig weighed but the closest CAT facility was over an hour away. Found this listing on the web...it's for California but I would bet other states have the same type listing under their government websites.

Here's the link: http://www.cdfa.ca.gov/dms/programs/wm/publicscales/publicscalelisting.html

That's a very handy web site, thanks!

The link was invalid... here's the fixed version:

PhL0aTeR... that's not exactly the most helpful comment since obviously not everyone has nearby truck stop.

Interesting. I just learned something I hadn't thought of. Most of these scales are a single large pad. They're not setup for individual axles like a CAT scale.

One place I talked to said they do it, but you have to drive around to get one wheel of the tow vehicle at a time on a corner of the pad. That seems like a heck of a lot of work (weigh all four corners of the TV, then weigh again hitched up, then adjust and start over).

I just used that other link for truck scales. The closest one to San Diego is 80 miles away. Peachy!

I live about a mile from a quarry. I called them up a month ago and asked if they'd let me weigh my rig. They said no prob, just call a day in advance. They also said they wouldn't give me a weight cert, but hey, it's free and close to home.

In oregon, no problem pulling into a closed truck weigh station. They keep the scales running, so you can take your time weighing rigs.
In most cases you can weigh one axle at a time, but not one wheel at a time.
