If they can tow that much. Then it should be possible to tow a 2000 Silverado right? But here is the other question how do I find out if the truck is able to tow?
The 2008 Seneca we looked at had a 500 lb tounge weight limit and a 5000lb rated hitch. The Duramax and allison combination can tow a lot more weight than that, but you would be over all legal limits. Be careful when towing outside of GCWR you could be held liable in an accident. Gross combined weight minus loaded motor home weight equals maximum towing weight. If the Seneca weighs 22000 lbs loaded and the chasis gross combined weight is 26000lbs then you have 4000lbs of towing capacity regardless of engine power.
Good Pic...but the top line "DO NOT EXCEED THE TOWING VEHICLE MANUFACTURER'S RATINGS" means that 10,000 lbs. is the absolute max you can tow IF there are no other factors. I believe there ARE other weight factors, that will reduce the towing capacity such that the gross combined weight is less than 26,000 lbs.

Rick,
I understand the tire, axle, GVW & GCVW ratings better than most on the C-5500. However, since I'm not good at teaching or preaching I will let others argue it's capabilities and limits.
I wasn't trying to imply that the Seneca was rated to tow 10K.
I was just pointing out the fact that the receiver on my 2007 Seneca was rated for 10,000 gross & 1000 tongue.
Also, according to the 2008 brochure '08 Seneca's should have an 8000lb hitch not a 5000. Obviously there's a discrepancy between what the brochure says and what the poster saw.

My 2007 Greyhawk was to come with an 8000 lb hitch but also came with a 10,000.
I can probably get closer to 10k without exceeding the GCWR than any Seneca. BUT, to get to 10k I'd have to have DW, son and self suck up a lot of helium, make sure the water and waste tanks were empty and there was nothing in the storage compartments - inside or out.

My main factor for buying a motorhome was the ability to tow my 10,000lb boat. Went back and forth with the Seneca salesman. Loved the coach, wanted a Duramax since I have had two, but needed the tow capacity. Bottom line was there was nothing that they could do to allow me to safely and legally tow 10,000lbs. Believe me it is not because of the motor. My Duramax Crew cab can easily tow a 14000 lb trailer. That would put a gross combined weight of near 22000lbs (truck and trailer) and plenty of get up.
Salesman offered to put a 10000lb hitch instead of the 5000lb but the service department said no way, do it yourself if you want it on there because the vehicle is not rated for that hitch.
We were negotiating on the 35 GS.
Bottom line is, be close to your GCWR so you are not liable in an accident. These diesels can and will tow the weights we are taking about very easily.
