We are in the planning stages of a trip to Port Aransas and have questions about campgrounds. Have any of you stayed at Island RV Resort or Gulf Waters RV Resort? We have never been to Texas and know nothing about this area other than what I have read. Would appreciate any and all help on c/g's, best time to travel, etc.
As always thanks a bunch. We made our Big Adventure to S.D. and back thru Michigan, Mackinaw Island. Thanks to your help it was a great trip.

Also highly recommend Pioneer Beach Resort. Only a sand dune separates you from the ocean. The only reason we dont go back there is we were looking for something warmer and dryer due to wifes arthritis so we winter in Tucson AZ now. safe travels..bob

Island RV is a fair resort, but it is in town on Cutoff Road which takes you from the ferry to the main street area. Not very private. I believe the sites had a concrete pad, but nothing fancy. It is not on the water. Gulf Waters is out of town maybe 5 miles or so. Privately owned sites, very, very nice - don't think resorts come much nicer. The grounds are beautiful. Also, it's right on the gulf, so you can just cross the boardwalk and be on the beach. We'd much prefer Gulf Waters, but it's extremely pricey, and sometimes you have to move your rig if the site you are renting happens to sell while you're there. We stayed at Pioneer RV Resort which was fairly close to Gulf Waters and also was on the water, but I believe the property was sold and will be redeveloped - condo's & such. Nice price, very clean, but it also was all concrete. If price is no object, stay at Gulf Waters. Check Fantasy Islander's posts. He's been wintering there a few years now.

Check out the I. B. Magee County Park in Port Aransas. If you like to boondock you can park right on the beach. Was there in July and parked within 20' of the water. Really great. They also have a dump site and water.

I agree with the previous posts that Gulf Waters is very nice, but a little expensive. Pioneer is also nice, but the sites are much closer together than Gulf Waters. Also, as I understand it, the deal to sell Pioneer fell through.

If you have not already done so, go to www.traveltex.com and order our free travel guide. You'll get a very good book listing points of interest by town and the state's travel map, which I consider to be first rate compared to others that I've used.

Hope you enjoy your stay with us. I hope that you are treated with friendliness and respect while you are here.

I have stayed at Island RV resort before. It is not my favorite place to stay, always got a grass site, bath house was never that clean, same with pool and hot tub. Big sign by hot tub no kids allowed in hot tub unless accompied by adult, always had to chase kids out no adults around. By the way it is a "Good Sam Park".
To check for other parks in the area( there are quite a few) go to www.portaransas.org and click on stay&play. I have also stayed at Tropic Island Motel & RV park(better).

We have stayed at Pioneer Rv and Gulf Waters and enjoyed them both. Pioneer Rv the spaces are closer together. Lots of Snowbirds in winter which we really enjoyed getting to know. Gulf Waters is expensive but have always enjoyed our stay there.

Well we just love Ransom Road RV Park in Aransas Pass Texas been there three winters now. It may be filled up already though?

Out on the Island at Port Aransas it gets REAL WINDY!!!

There are some nice parks in Corpus Christi that is about 30 minute drive from there to Aransas Pass.

Also allot of parks in Rockport.

There is also a brand new RV Park in Aransas Pass do not know the name yet but I have been told it is done now with about 300 sites.

Just stayed at Gulf Shores for second year in a row. Yes, very nice park except for the people who run it!
Our last morning there, a man & woman came by in a golf cart. They wanted to know if we had guest over the day before. I told them yes, they came by to pick us up for a day at the beach and they were here for about 10 minutes. Why?? He asked me where they parked. I pointed and told him right there. (the spot next to us that was empty along with about 100 more!!) He said that was against there rules and to never do that again! I told him "Sir, this is your off season. You have maybe 10 units in your entire park. He didn't care.
Anyway, don't mean to ramble, we finished getting everything together and headed home. We had two small, tied up, bags of trash we left at edge of our sight. Like we do everywhere. We just received a $25 charge on our Visa. When we called to ask why, they said we should have put our trash in the dumpster as stated in there 'rules" and that was there charge.
We WILL NOT be back! Why do people have to act this way. Maybe just had nothing else to do that day.
