For better or worse, I managed to make it home with 3 days left of my vacation to the Poconos. It's been one catastrophe after another.
First, the water leak in the shower (that it was in the shop for 5 weeks to fix and they said they couldn't find) came back with the first shower I took. The next day, my daughter woke up and said "Daddy, the carpet in the bedroom is wet". Turns out the city inlet is also leaking into the camper, running along the wall of the bathroom into the carpet of the bedroom. Since the underside is enclosed, I have no idea what damage it did to the plywood underneath. While unsuccessfully trying to fix the inlet leak, I also noticed one of the crimp fittings leaking (which I don't have the tools to fix).
I contacted the dealer and told him I'm leaving the campground Friday morning and dropping the camper at his lot on the way back to Dover. No point in spending an extra tank and a half of gas to take it home and then bring it back in to him.
I also said that I'd set up the camper fully (slides, stabilizers, etc) and jump into the shower in my bathing suit just to prove to him that it DOES leak from underneath.
I'm also going to ask that he pull the bottom covering and inspect the plywood in the bedroom to see what damage was done (and repair it). I don't want to get it back home and pull the bottom to find the plywood is separating and/or rotting.
OT: Does anyone remember the old days when the phrase MADE IN AMERICA was something to be proud of???
Although Otter Lake is considered one of the top 10 bass lakes in the Northeast, I got skunked. The only person to catch anything was my daughter's BF who latched onto a pickerel. Since the lake is shallow, I had the trolling motor on the transom pulled up part-way to avoid hitting stumps, and when he got a bite, I turned the motor 180-degrees to stop the boat (the motor doesn't have REVERSE). You guessed it... BAM BAM The bottom of the boat snapped off the prop blades and I ended up rowing the three of us across the lake back to the campsite.
Tonight is the last night here and we traditionally have a big campfire. My Dad lives a few miles from here and told me not to bring any firewood since he's got tons of it. Unfortunately, he failed to tell me that he had only split it a few days prior, so the wood is still VERY wet. We had a lot of smoke and a little fire with a LOT of help from fire starters and citronella oil just trying to keep it lit.
This is one of the few times I can honestly say I'm glad a camping trip is almost over. I'm INCREDIBLY glad I didn't have the water leaking into the carpet for the full 8 days I was planning to stay. I'm still worried about dropping the camper off to be fixed again for the same thing. I don't want it to start leaking at Elk Neck (and I wonder if I'll even have it BACK by then).
If they took a month to diagnose and dismiss one leak, does that mean it'll take three months to diagnose three leaks? LOL
Well, if I'm a no-show at Elk Neck, swing by Joppa, MD and wave HI to my camper for me.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread, already in progress...

Here we are at the campfire in NY and Frank was considering going to the Shady Maple before we head to Cooperstown tomorrow morning.
We thought it might be a bad idea.
I am still trying to figure out what lighthouse he was talking about where we were going to meet at up here. Hmmmmmm? Maybe it was another lighthouse somewhere else.
Chris- That sucks!! I cant believe the string of things that are happening. Tell the dealer that they better get it fixed prior to ELk Neck. In fact, I have a contact person that sent us more Forest River door prizes you may want to drop the guy an email. Let me know.
Robo, you are too funny. Count me in if we are going to Shady Maple- Oh I am sure we can find a lighthouse on the way
